Honestly, a pretty poor experience considering the cost. Sydney has a lot to offer, especially if you are ok paying ~$250 a head. Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy it. We started with oysters. Of the four we had, one was off. Like, properly off. My partner thought it tasted “more mouldy than blue cheese” and she likes blue cheese. Which, after it couldn’t be eaten and was sent back to the kitchen, was not even removed from our bill. We had to say that we were not comfortable paying for something we could only eat a portion of. The seafood seemed quite overcooked. Scallops were a little chewy and the prawn somewhat charred, although that just may be a preference thing to be fair. We had the wagyu tasting set. The meat felt like the cheaper cuts and also seemed a little overcooked. We got medium, which was the chefs recommendation. The sauces also had a bit of a dry layer on top of them, like they were prepared well in advance and left sitting there. The final disappointing thing was the mac and cheese side. It was more like cheap pasta, cream and breadcrumbs. There was no cheesiness whatsoever. Pretty disappointing. On a positive note, the other two sides, the creamed spinach and broccolini, were good. All that said and done, the service team was lovely. I don’t want this experience to, in any way, sound negative to the service experience. The team were great. It was the food that really lets this place down. Overall, we spent a lot (for us) and ended up just wanting to get out of there. We do a monthly date night and, other than the company, this was probably one to forget. Shame.

I would like to say it was an amazing experience. The food is good; however, the steak was a bit too dry for my taste. Maybe trying a medium rare next time would be even better. The staff was incredibly nice and provided excellent service, explaining everything and assisting with the orders. I had a great time with my friends and highly recommend everyone to visit. The staff mentioned that it's a new food menu, and overall, it's a good place to dine.

My partner and I had our anniversary dinner at Black. I found it a little disappointing. The food was surprisingly overpriced. the $90 wagyu beef had only a few small pieces and tasted average. The $70 scotch tasted like a regular woolie steak. But the only reason I gave it a 4 starts is because their service was great and to celebrate our anniversary they gave us a free cupcake with cute little candles and words written in chocolate. But at all ....there are better steakhouses or fine dining restaurants in Sydney than Black…..

Quality food, but service could've been much better. Serviettes were not handed out as we were seated and the original drink order was being taken. They were eventually shifted in front of us when they delivered side plates and bread, before someone else realised and sorted this out. Tables don't have linen and get wet from drink condensation and dirty from crumbs and at no stage did anyone attempt to tidy or sweep up. It was pretty uncomfortable by the time we finished our entrees. We stacked our own finished plates and cutlery which was left for too long, before being cleared, which is pretty unforgivable at any establishment. The place was extremely loud once it started to fill up, with added noise from music making it pretty uncomfortable to have any type of conversation. Food was great, but for what you pay, the service is inattentive and basic. My daughter didn't like her "kids meal", due to nutmeg in the kids mac'n'cheese, which she found in her words "peppery". But to their credit, they happily replaced it for her with another dish, which we found cool. We also found the Cocktails to be rather bland and plain looking. At the end of the day, it's a very expensive place for the delivered standards on display that night.

I had an absolutely fabulous evening in the private dining room at Black Bar & Grill. Each dish was wonderfully cooked, presented and flavoursome. In addition, each of the sides was excellent, particularly the very yummy crunchy golden chips. The service and atmosphere were fantastic as well.
