Reviews for Glass Merchants

We visited Glass Merchants for brunch on after the first two places we attempted had lengthy waits. It may have been worth waiting as despite a really cool exterior and interior I really did not care for my smashed avocado breakfast and didn’t find it visually appealing either which was surprising considering it’s such a well known space. In a word, disappointing

Stopped in over the weekend for brunch and were greeted with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was super friendly and admitted she was fairly new, but she was happy to ask for advice when I ordered a drink that was not on the menu (a coffee frappe or a "dirty vanilla milkshake" as the barista called it). There are plenty of delicious menu items that we'll have to try out the next time we visit. Food service was very quick and the meals we ordered were great. I am all too often disappointed with a potato hash as the base for eggs benedict, however the chef clearly knows what they're doing as they were filling and not too crispy. They also had flavour! I was sceptical about the pomegranate and thought it must just be a fancy garnish, however it greatly complemented the savoury meal with a pinch of sweet.

Both decaf and regular long blacks were really good. We had the veggie breakfast and eggs benedict and really enjoyed their fun twist on the flavors. I thought the hollandaise sauce was creamy and not too rich, our avocado was unripe though. The baked (I think) mushrooms yummy, baked beans was like spicy, warm soul food in a bowl and those potato rectangular things 🤤. I could eat a whole bowl of those! We went around lunch time to beat the brunch rush, still busy but service was lovely and quick. The menu on the website isn’t updated, slightly different options and about $3-4 more, pretty standard cafe price around the area.

Good coffee, good brunch food. Busy but service was timely. High ceilings, relaxed vibe.

I hate to say this but the place has really dropped its standards. Used to go there for brunch a lot and the food though not flash was very good. Today hash browns out of a pack 15 dollars. I usaully order baked eggs with chicken its just baked eggs now without chicken but they charge the same price. The service is also very slow. Everyones wallet is a little lighter so going to brunch is rarer now. I would unfortunately no longer recommend this place to anyone unless they up thier game.
