Being attached to the Roslyn Packer Theatre, pre-show dinners are (when we went) a 2 or 3 course option. We had the 2 course and while my Eggplant Tempura was quite nice, the Tart was not. It was chewy, lukewarm and obviously pre-made. Mains were a bit better with my Sirloin being quite tasty but the Chicken was apparently bland and dry. Overall a not great dining experience however the staff were very good. Plenty of other dining options nearby to the theatre.
We decided to eat here before seeing the show ‘ Dear Evan Hansen ‘. Unfortunately it was far from an pleasant experience. We arrived at 5.30pm booking as we expected for it to get very busy later and it did. Our order was taken quickly and the themed cocktail was very nice and arrived promptly - the only good thing for the evening. It took requests to two waitstaff before my wine order was taken and another 15 minutes and another request to a staff member before my wine arrived. I was observing the bar and there were 3 or 4 staff having a lovely time socialising but few drinks were actually being delivered. Our meals were plopped down and the staff didn’t ask if we required further drinks, etc. We both wanted another wine to have with our main meal but nada, nothing. We just gave up and decided to have a coffee with dessert - once again the desserts were just placed in front of us and the staff member disappeared without and service I.e did we want anything else. I then had to go to the till area to request our bill !! We spent just over $200 and if there had been service our total would have been closer to $300. Surely you need to have a good chat with your staff. For the main part of our dining experience the room was less than half full - so no excuses about being very busy.
We loved our pre theatre dinner experience! Staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. They allowed us time to pace our courses (as we'd arrived quite early for our show). The show themed cocktail was super delicious! As for the two course meals - we both thoroughly enjoyed our starters (I had the Kingfish Sashimi, it was sublime, husband had the K-fried chicken, which I found a little on the dry side tbh so glad I didn't pick it - but hubby enjoyed it). Then for mains I had the lamb (YUMM!!) and my husband the Chicken Maryland - also really good! All in all a lovely experience. We'd already checked in our coats prior to eating so it was fab to just be able to go into the theatre after we finished. Highly recommend!
When did restaurants only offer medium or well done meat. Only if they overcook it. All other dishes were unseasoned. For a first time very disappointing experience. No wonder everyone else only ordered the chips.
Had a lovely pre-theatre meal here. We decided on sharing and ordered 2 entrees, the lemongrass pumpkin rice balls and salt & pepper style squid and 1 main, the barbeque pork & prawn fried rice. The serving was perfect for two to share and it came really quickly. The rice balls were full of flavour and the squid was cooked to perfection. There wasn't a whole lot of flavour to the fried rice but it was a good side dish to compliment the others. We loved our cocktails and coffee too!
