Meet Freya of Recomazing

Freya, Head of Conversations at Recomazing is actually all sorts of ah-mazing.

She works full time, studies full time, heads up Fishburner’s female entrepreneur group Burner Babes and still makes sure she allows for some essential non-work activities in her day! Breaking a sweat in the gym, winding down with a walk along Sydney’s beaches with her partner or catching up on some Netflix (Outlander is her current fave) are ways Freya decompresses.

Work/life balance is oh so important and while many of us set out to achieve this nirvana, it can be hard to clock off from work and make time for some ‘play’. Freya has curated a collection of valuable tools that assist her in breaking away from the 9-5.

She’s passionate about sharing her tried and tested methods for productivity via Recomazing (why keep them to herself when she can share them with others!) Recomazing is Australia’s largest database of trusted recommendations by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs.

With over 9000 recos on the platform, the company was founded by Freya’s good friend Marc Cowper, who she used to work with at an advertising agency. Freya loved the concept of Recomazing and quickly jumped on board to work alongside Marc and the small (but growing) team.

From trending tech tools, awesome local suppliers to mindfulness apps that help you de-stress from work, you’ll find the best of the best on Recomazing. Tech leaders from Slack, Airtasker, zipMoney, HubSpot, Atlassian, Canva, Spaceship, Academy Xi, Growth Hackers have also paid it forward by recommending their favourite tools for growth.

When it comes to working, Freya’s top 3 essential tools and services are:

  • Toby - I’m a visual person, so being able to arrange my tabs on one beautiful web page works better for me than my bookmark bar on my Mac. Also, you can share your collections of tabs with the rest of your team which makes it easier to share information across the team.
  • HubSpot of startups - Lots of my day is taken up by content creation and social media. HubSpot efficiently links the blog posts I write for the company with the social posts I send out. It’s nice to be able to manage it all from one platform as it makes it easier to analyse how well contents are performing.
  • Trello - From a personal and work perspective, Trello helps me to organise my life. I use Trello because again, I like the way my to-do list is visually set out and you can collaborate with others on your to-do list. Trello works really well for our team as we work in sprints.

Freya has adapted to work from anywhere, but these tools – along with a good set of headphones – ensure she’s always making the most out of any spare workspace she’s working from.

“All I need is my noise-cancelling headphones and my iMac and I’m good. However, my most productive days are at home working at my kitchen table – no distractions there.”

Her preferred spaces are Tank Stream Labs or Fishburners, primarily for the collaborative environment and she’s looking forward to moving into the Sydney Startup Hub.

Look out for Freya if you’re ever working out of these spaces – you may just get an amazing recommendation, or two.
