5 Practical Tips To Make Business Travel Less Miserable

Frequent business traveling can wear out even the most seasoned of travelers. And so we have put together our own favourite list of tips and tricks to reduce the agony and make your trip easier, if not enjoyable.

Before you leave home

Use a designated bag for traveling.

If you’re always on the go, it would be wise to invest in a bag or luggage that’s built for travel. In the past, it might be considered impractical as luggage can be misplaced, lost, or stolen. However, with the technology that we have nowadays, “smart” luggage equipped with GPS can now be tracked throughout your travel. You can also lock and unlock it using your mobile. Other features include zipperless entry, USB port for charging, and even a digital scale.

Top Tip: If you want to avoid the extra fees for checked luggage, bring a bag that will fit either space under the seat or the overhead bin.

Pack light

Yes, you can look professional without bringing half your wardrobe. If it’s not going to be a long trip, just bring one neutral-colored suit and mix and match it with neutral-colored shirts and accessories. If you’re bringing a coat, just wear it on the plane to free up space in your bag.

Other tips:

  • Charge your gadgets using USB ports.
  • Roll your clothes instead of folding them. This will help minimise the wrinkles.
  • Use compression bags.
  • Just bring two shoes.
  • Use travel-sized bottles for your toiletries.

At the airport

Arrive early

Business traveling can be a hodgepodge of the unexpected. There might be flight delays, long taxi lines, gate changes, or simply a crowd at the security checkpoints. Most of these can be avoided by arriving early. If anything, you can use the extra time to do some light reading or catch up on work.

Bring your own food

Airport food is overpriced at best. And most are unhealthy. You can bring your own snacks and eat before you board the plane.

During the trip

Have a routine for eating and sleeping

For red-eye flights, just eat before boarding the plane so you can maximise the time for sleeping. Business traveling can be exhausting so make sure to get some serious shut-eye when you can.

Stay away from unhealthy food

Airplane food can be notoriously unhealthy. You might think that you’re getting a freshly-cooked meal, but this is not the case. More likely, it’s been prepared and reheated a few times. Also, it’s incredibly high in sodium which can trigger headaches and feelings of bloatedness. Blechh.

Bonus: Homebound

Forget all those freebies and folders that you got at the conference. Just take home only the things that you want or really need. If you’re keen to bring them all, just arrange for the hotel to mail them back to your home or office.
