Everyone loves a rooftop space for events – especially when we’re all starting to think about locking in a spot for an end of year celebration. Right in time for Vivid 2018 and Christmas party planning, 55 George has been unveiled in the heart of the Rocks.
For a little while now, the rooftop pool deck atop Holiday Inn Old Sydney has been one of the city’s true hidden treasures. In an unlikely setting, one finds an incredible view, a stylish and unique setting, and plenty of experience hosting events.
Now the space is hurtling out into the world on its own, with a rebrand, a spruce up, and a brand new identity: 55 George.
With its new identity, 55 George is now also sporting revamped branding, and a revived functions kit. The team have partnered with new music, entertainment and styling partners, and injected the already-stylish space with new furniture and decorations, including a fresh and vibrant green wall.
The new-look space was in full flight during its recent launch – the vibe was ‘tropical luxe’, and the evening was delightfully warm (with summer having stuck around for a little longer than expected this year).
How much does an event at 55 George cost?
55 George’s launch featured live music, food stations, and some delightful new drops from Accolade Wines. And of course, the view from the Rocks across over to the Harbour was a show-stopper.
According to the team at 55 George, the space lends itself particularly well to corporate events that need a spark of something different. Client ‘thank you’ events, end of financial year parties, cocktail functions, Christmas parties.
The space is understated, far from over the top. There's plenty of greenery to complement that new green wall, along with wooden floors below, a marquee above, with festoon lighting for when the sun goes down. The space is stylish, while letting the view do the talking. And why wouldn't you, when it's there and looking breathtaking? It's definitely a memorable spot.
Jenny Quinn of the 55 George team notes that the Christmas period is already incredibly popular. “We still have dates available for Christmas, but it’s getting busy. The venue is quite central, which makes it easy to get to and from. Plus, there are a number of great after party options in the Rocks at the moment. It’s an exciting time to be in the Rocks!”
In a stroke of excellent timing, Vivid Sydney is about to kick off for 2018 – and of course, 55 George boasts a truly enviable vantage point to take in the lit up cityscape. In fact, the venue boasts direct views of the Opera House.
In Jenny’s opinion this year is definitely the time to make the most of the festival. “It’s Vivid’s 10th birthday, which means the festival will be going all out.” The team’s recommendation? Kick off your rooftop event at around 5.30pm, add some live music, and by 6pm (after building some anticipation), the lights are switched on in all their glory.
This space is still something of a hidden gem – get that end of year (or end of financial year) party planning going, to make the most of 55 George and its incredible view.
