Our Picks: Spending Mother’s Day in Melbourne

Here’s a ‘ya mum’ joke for you: it’s a joke how much mums do for us kids and how little most of us reciprocate. I know, I know – you might be an angel child (like me) BUT there’s still so much we’d have to do to get on par with what our mum’s have sacrificed for us. And even though we should be thanking our mums everyday and treating them like queens, we don’t do that for the most part.

Thankfully, there’s a day that pretty much forces us to pay attention to our beloved matriarchs – and that day is Mother’s Day.

So, what will the fine folks of Venuemob be doing for their mums come Sunday, May 14? The team speaks:

Kira, Venue Booking Manager
“I'm treating my mum to a late Mother's Day when she comes in a few weeks, this is the day we have planned so far: SOS Café for some coffee and breakfast, walk through the Botanical Gardens, then head to the NGV Van Gogh Exhibition.”

Victoria, Head of Corporate Business Development
“I'm a new mom, so as far as I'm concerned it's all about me! I make my hubby take me to the Chelsea Heights Hotel because I dig the Geodesic Dome with palm trees, and they always have live music for my little guy to dance around to. It's a solid, relaxing pub meal, and a comfy place to hang for a few hours.”

James, Chief Technical Officer
“Mother's Day for us normally revolves around food – traditionally we gather the family together for lunch at a local yum cha restaurant. Our favourites are Gold Leaf Springvale, Gold Leaf Burwood and Crown Palace Vermont! And now I'm craving dumplings.”

Sagie, Marketplace Growth Manager
“My Mother's Day tradition is cooking for my mum. She loves fish, so every year I make her a new fish dish. I get dad a kebab as well so that mum doesn't have to cook.”

Hayley, Content Producer
“We always make breakfast for Mum and clean the house. Then we cook her dinner while she and all the other local mums get drunk on white wine at a Williamstown pub – they’ve been doing this for a decade.”

Kelsey, Sales and Events Coordinator
“Brunch definitely! It’s our favourite go-to meal together. Some of our favourites are Hendriks Cafe in Mordialloc (the food there is amazing) and Parlour in Cheltenham. Main Street Cafe in Mordialloc also do delicious breaky and is always busy with locals!”

Reb, Content Manager
“I guess all mums go nuts for high tea (what is it about nice tea and delicious treats and also champagne?), but a while ago we took Mum to the opera to see Carmen. She went nuts for THAT, maybe because her name is Carmen but mostly because it was beautiful. So yeah, the opera.”

Sanna, Corporate Business Development Manager
“My mother and I live in different countries so I don't get to pamper her on Mother’s Day, but we usually have a long chat over Skype. My tradition is to participate in the Mother’s Day Classic fun run. It's a great start to the day and raises funds for an important cause.”
