September Reading: The Events and Business Books We Think You’ll Love

Looking to unwind after a hectic work week? Why not use the weekend to check out an event in your city - there's always some local happenings. If you're keen to get some business books, we've been hearing some chatter about the upcoming Brisbane Writer's Festival. Sydney may have had it's turn earlier in the year and Melbourne's has just wrapped up, but Brissie is in for a real treat this month.

We’ve put together some key info we think you should know about the festival.

The Writers Festival isn't just for bookworms/Harry Potter-fans, there's speakers and workshops for all types.  Think nonfiction writers and experts like  philosophers, political scientists, anthropologists, historians, journalists - and of course entrepreneurs. With so many ideas flying around, you may just get your next business idea at the event.

Chances are there’s a festival event featuring that thing that interests you, but that you don’t get to indulge too often.

Brisbane: September 6-10th

The Brisbane Writer’s Festival takes place from the 6th till the 10th of September, and it is absolutely filled to the brim with exciting events.

Want to be inspired to create exciting content for your business? Swing by Friday afternoon’s panel featuring online documentary producer for SBS Ella Rubeli, QUT’s expert on all things journalism Susan Hetherington, and award-winning prolific journalist Debra Jopson.

Politics more your thing? Attend a lecture by Duke University’s Professor of History and Public Policy, Nancy Maclean, entitled “Democracy in Chains”. Nancy will be attempting to make sense of the current political climate in the US and worldwide terms of what the majority wants, freedom, and beliefs. Or maybe the panel on The End of Capitalism is more your style, in that case Sunday the 10th of September has what you’re after.

Anthropology or Earth Science enthusiast? The Anthropocene panel is right up your street – featuring specialists in Economics, Science and Journalism, these experts will discuss the Anthropocene, the name for our era of history that has resulted from climate change.

A future-thinker like you might just want to join like-minded folk late Friday afternoon, where sociologists and psychologists are coming together in “Peak: Reinventing Middle Age” – exploring what might happen as people keep living longer and longer.
