Spotlight On: Roc’s

Chapel Street is one of those areas that has its hits and flops, its cult classics, straight-to-video releases and runaway successes. Cue Roc’s.

With snappily-dressed bartenders, a strong focus on old-world cocktails and a setting that is kind of like Mad Men meets La La Land, it seems fitting that Roc’s is located next to Village Jam Factory’s Gold Class cinema. After all, this is a gold class venue.

There’s nothing ambiguous about this space – it’s new old-world class and charm, in one plush and seductive setting. Their dedication to the drop is also something to behold: thirty pages of bar menu. Thirty pages of whiskeys from all corners of the globe, of wines from some of the best wineries in Australia. There are also spirit flights, which to us sounds like a holistic foray into enlightenment. And really, after partaking in the Glenmorangie aged whiskey flight ($55) you’re likely to be feeling a little light-headed at least.

The food at Roc’s adheres to this concept of nostalgic modernity. Think crab cakes with guacamole and gazpacho, or mussels with tomato, basil, capers and beurre blanc. On the pizza menu the trend continues. The fungi and margarita pizzas satisfies that simple yet strong urge for cheesy, salty food that inevitably accompanies drinking.

Despite being in its infancy, Roc’s has already seen its fair share of memorable and interesting events. According to Functions Sales Manager Peter Scott, highlights so far have included Disney Australia’s  Christmas party, as well as premiere parties for both Sully and Jason Bourne.

It’s not all Christmas parties and premieres – Plush Furniture held a Very Important Customer product launch. Being invited to a party that celebrates couches actually sounds like a blast – not to mention super comfortable. Roc’s even has a first birthday/christening party for 180 people booked (those are some classy babies).

And if you needed any extra incentive to host your own party – spend at least $1,000 between now and June 30th and you’ll receive two complimentary Gold Class passes. Or spend $5,000 and receive four complimentary Gold Class passes and four regular movie tickets. So, when the confetti has settled and you need to put your feet up, you can do it in cinematic velour comfort.
