Attended for the Mother’s Day High Tea which was amazing. I’ve been to a lot of high teas but this was by far the best. Beautiful location, delicious (and plentiful) food and all presented very lovely. I liked how they spaced the tables out and didn’t squeeze lots of people in, also the music they had playing was perfect for the occasion - soft background music. This is going to be really hard to beat as it was so special. Was able to walk around the house but thought it was rather small and not much too see. Very glad I didn’t have to pay $12 for entry. I would’ve been disappointed if I’d paid $12 as it’s absolutely not worth that. There was a slight miscommunication between staff. The lady checking your names tells you that you can walk around the house whilst you’re waiting for your table to be ready. So people start walking around only to be yelled at by quite an aggressive volunteer that you’re not allowed inside the house. Perhaps making sure the doors are closed or staff are all on the same page so visitors are not getting shouted at.

Worth a wander around and beautifully renovated. It has some fabulous old trees in the garden and careful planting. Spot the wrought iron standing toilet unit in the side garden and wander through the maze.

Have always been curious about what was inside (when it was undergoing a renovation in 2024). Ended up going through during Brisbane Open House 2025. It was interesting and each room was presented nicely with information signs to read about the history / stories. Seeing the servants quarters underneath the house was cool. And stunning river / park views from the balcony. Enjoyed visiting. Toilets were available onsite, but there are also some public toilets in the nearby park. Spent approximately 30min here and that was enough for us, but you’d need more time (1hr) if you are reading all the information.
Ciska Burrie
Beautiful location on a bend in the river giving expansive views. Great spot for a picnic (or a wedding!) with lush grassy areas, shaded areas, easy to get to by bike. Some limited parking nearby. The House is definitely worth visiting. Make sure you join in on a tour with a volunteer guide. There’s some really interesting history with significant visitors along the way. Look out for the ‘Lucinda’ chair - it’s providence is linked to Australia’s Constitution!

Newstead house has a lot of history about the the house and the grounds. The grounds are immaculate and perfect which I think is very good. Inside the house their is a lot of history to get your head around but how the house is setup it is perfect. The house and grounds are beautiful in every way. But their is only one problem their is not enough parking and even when their is the driveway is too small and it is hard to park and if you park on the street you have to pay😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩. Other than that the grounds are immaculate and they are beautiful. Good job keeping the grounds beautiful you should be proud😊😊
