Hotel was great. Easy to find. Parking on site. Our last minute booking was made easy by reception staff. We had a balcony overlooking the swimming pool. I loved the location, very secluded in the city which is hard to find. Great for families as well.
Rooms were nice, mine had a strange smell but other than that the bed was comfortable and the pillows were fine. Mini bar in fridge had a good variety. I don't know why all the hotels are now putting pod coffee machines into rooms without a milk machine, bit annoying. Breakfast was simple but well done, unfortunately the coffee was quite bad, tasted very burnt and was either hot hot or just at temp closer to warm, they use Vittoria I believe , never been a fan. Dinner wa hot and miss, some meals were well done but others quite lacking. Beef ragout with pasta was very flat, missing the rich tomato flavour you'd expect in a ragout. Steaks were only ok, striploin was tougher than I'd expect for the price, eye fillet was rather small. Dietaries requests were not followed through in the kitchen unfortunately. Veg cannelloni was good and was enjoyed. Found it quite disappointing to see we were charged for still cold water at the table (it was tap water not bottled) without any mention of there being a charge. Tap water, do you really need to charge for that? Check in and out was ok, not sure if it is a difficult system to use (most likely, they all are) of if it was lack of knowledge but it took some time to sort out checking out multiple rooms. Overall it's a good place to stay, probably consider eating out for dinner and grab a coffee elsewhere.
We booked two rooms at Hotel Alba over a very busy weekend with Fringe and Motor Festivals. We specifically booked this hotel so we could enjoy the pool and a couple of the drinks at the end of each (hot) day. We were sent an email the night before we checked in advising the pool and bar would be closed on Sat from 2pm for a private function. If we were told this before we booked we would not have stayed , and it was too late to try and find suitable rooms elsewhere. The private function happened to be a Rave Party that had been advertised since late 2025, well before we booked the hotel . The music was ear piercing and made our rooms unusable while it was on. I won’t go into detail of what we saw happening in the pool area during the rave party - but let’s just say we didn’t want to use the pool the next day and probably would steer clear of the pool for a while 🙈we will be booking elsewhere when we attend next year
A little out of the CBD but a Tram Stop across the beautiful adjacent park that is free around the CBD. The hotel was immaculate and the Hotel Alba Team were efficient and very pleasant and friendly! They even have a pair of ducks that visit at night for a swim 🫶 Restaurant was a little pricey but delicious 😋 Could do with some balcony furniture but Highly Recommend 👌
Update 2: it's 44C out and while I was gone they stole my keycard again so the aircon was turned off and my room is a sauna. This happens every other day. Stop turning off my power and stealing my key card. On the plus side at least they changed my sheets today (3rd time in 25 days after begging) Update: it has now been 9 days since they changed the sheets despite asking multiple times. Downgrading to 1 star. I have 15 days left here probably drowning in my own sweaty sheets from the terrible cleaning service Cleaning standards seem to drop the longer I stay. The hotel says sheets are changed every 3 days, but in practice it’s closer to once a week. Housekeeping is hit-and-miss: some days the bath mat isn’t replaced and the towels are just left on the bed instead of being hung up. Coffee pods are inconsistent too — I never know if they’ll be refilled (today is another no). The room also doesn’t seem to be vacuumed regularly; it looks like it’s been days now. One odd issue: glassware sometimes disappears. Instead of being cleaned or replaced, glasses are occasionally taken away and not returned — my wine glass has vanished — which makes it feel like you’re discouraged from eating or drinking in the room. Ironic considering the massive mini bar. Finally, the pool is hard to enjoy because towels are often unavailable. It seems the pool is shared with outside guests (and the motel next door), which likely contributes to the shortage.
