Average. Mains all arrived at different times. Steaks took 30 mins to arrive, all over cooked. Sent them back and still came out overdone but not as bad. Staff were fairly absent, did not clear drinks and plates.

When I come to Melbourne I make it a point to go to the Espy. It has changed over the years and it looks fabulous. Do look around, there are some great bar areas, especially the ghost bar on the top floor, all beautifully decorated in their own way. It is also a live music venue so look up who is playing. If visiting St Kilda add the Espy on your list to visit.

What a beautiful old building. So many different areas to explore. So much character. Food on the other hand is ordinary, typical pub style food as all the other pubs. Corn and Cheese croquettes was probably the highlight. Chicken roll was only OK but definitely not worth the $34. The potato cakes that came with it were way too oily...terrible. The pepperoni pizza was standard but not a stand out. Next time will try their Cantonese restaurant, Mya Tiger, seems like a better option.

My partner and I visited here for a dinner. It didn’t go well. I don’t normally give review lower than two stars but I will and I do this time. Food We were a bit disappointed by the foods. Entree and mains came at the same time which was not ideal. The entree dishes were waiting for the main in the kitchen for too long and it started getting cold. When the foods were served, we had to rush to eat everything very quick so we don’t have to eat stone cold foods. It should not be operated in that way at all. -Crispy Halloumi The combination of halloumi and grapefruit was quite nice and I like the flavour. Very innovative and creative. It was meant to be hot but by the time when it arrived, it was only a bit warm. Perhaps it has been sitting and waiting for our main to be cooked and got cold. But it was still crispy. -Calamari Well cooked. The calamari was not chewy. It was crunchy. Nice amount. But the salad was a bit soggy. But it was just average. -Scotch fillet I wanted to order “blue” but the app didn’t have that option. I had to order it through the app and asked the staff to talk to the kitchen to make it blue. The steak was properly seasoned and cooked. The sauce was very flavourful but it was a little bit too salty. It will be perfect if it was less salty. -Caesar Salad We ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. The chicken was STONE COLD. It was coming straight out of the fridge on to the plate. The egg was also stone cold. I just cannot understand the philosophy behind to service large amount of sliced roster chicken cold in a Caesar salad. The salad dressing was not even enough to tell it’s there. The mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice in the dressing could barely be tasted in the dressing. We’ve tried Caesar salad from different places and most of them will serve the chicken and egg warm. It’s not pleasant to have icy cold chicken in the salad in such a cold night and it’s very disappointed to have Caesar salad like that in restaurant in metropolitan area. Service - There were only 3 or 4 staff members on the floor and it was not very easy to ask for help. I had to ask a staff to come around and clean the table which should’ve been cleaned before. No one even came to the table and asked whether we need table water etc,. It shouldn’t have happened in a public holiday evening. - The plate of our salad was shattered while my partner was trying to cut the chicken. The staff member helping us made a bad joke on that saying “Oh no! We lost a plate.” I don’t think it’s funny. It’s very embarrassing already when the plate was broken during the meal. We don’t need that type of comment. Atmosphere -The lighting was not the best. It was a bit dark to see our foods. Table was not very clean when we sat down. The indoor area was a bit cold too. I couldn’t imagine I had to put on my jacket while having a hot meal. That might be also why our foods went cold very quick. Overall This was not the best experience we should’ve had. To be blunt to say, a lot of places we’ve been to in regional Victoria have done way better than that. Compared to the businesses in Melbourne, they might have less resources. So there is no excuse for a business in Melbourne to operate in that level. Suggestions -Make sure entree and main are not served at the same time. -Manor adjustment might be required on recipes. -Trainings are required to ensure staff members will react properly. It is not funny to make jokes in some situation.

📍 The location is excellent, situated right on the cliffside of the bay. 🍔 It’s housed in a building over 100 years old that once operated as a hotel and now functions as a multi-level restaurant-pub. 🎤 It has a sensational retro vibe from the 1930s-50s, complete with cozy booths, a great bar, good music, and really good food. 🎹🎷 Plus, it’s a legendary spot for live music in Melbourne, so you might catch some great concerts on the venue’s stage as well.
