11 Dukes Walk, South Wharf VIC 3006, Australia
Bar
•Melbourne Public is one of the most impressive spots in one of Melbourne’s newest drinking and dining secret – South Wharf. Seriously though, South Wharf is finally cropping up on the collective radars of those in and around Melbourne, and that’s probably in large part because of the high-quality bars, restaurants and cafes littered along that stretch of Yarra. Including Melbourne Public.
Melbourne Public celebrates the best of Melbourne's past and present, in true Australian pub style. It’s a cafe, dining room and bar, housed within one of those very impressive reappropriated wharf sheds. By that we mean it’s all exposed beams, and views of the Yarra, combined with modern-day boutique beers, wines and a kick-ass dining menu. In the main bar that aforementioned industrial flair is on show, with “heritage reconditioned industrial lights” hanging the beams and high ceilings.
What does “heritage reconditioned industrial lights” mean? That’s probably just a long-winded way of saying “this room looks very nice”. The open plan area lends itself - apart from after-work drinks and watching the game - to corporate and cocktail functions, as well as big birthday celebrations. The dining room is also available for functions. Melbourne Public is found on Dukes Walk, South Wharf.
For those not in the know (it’s okay), walk along the Yarra past the Melbourne Convention Centre then voila! bars and cafes aplenty. Given its proximity to Spencer Street, both Southern Cross Station and 96, 109, and 112 trams are within strolling distance.
With a great atmosphere, good service and delicious food, Melbourne Public Bar is the perfect spot for a night out or to host your next event. Visit the bar today and experience it all for yourself!

First - shout out to my man Chef Brad. What a hero & legend for putting on the carvery spread he did. Can’t be easy & I can imagine fraught with dangers in balancing the quantity and quality based on those who may or may not turn up. I hope he is treated well for this! $39 for a carvery is very well placed - as a fan of roasts (@sundayroastdaddy - I don’t muck around for my love of roasts!) I can healthily and honestly put this up in lights. Brad not only knows what he is doing, he makes it a pleasure to be served by him. Aside from the quality tasty Sunday roast treats, I love they have Guinness on tap & have an option to sit both inside or outside. I can’t imagine you’ll have the most kind or friendliest of patrons at the best of times - so you know these bar staff are well equipped to deal with such matters - though we’re very kind to us. I can recommend the sticky date pudding, too. Not silly-sweet and had a good serving amount for dessert. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a roast coma to embrace.
Pretty bad, service and food is horrible. Waited for over 30 minutes for food, was given the reason that the chef was busy. I hope he is busy, busy making my food. We ask the server a couple of times then the food arrives. You be the judge. My pasta looks like someone already ate it and my steak that the chef insist is medium rare. Like bro, the only thing rare here is the medium rare steak. Honestly, not sure how they are still in business.
Very pleasant pub where I enjoyed a fantastic sunny afternoon in their spacious outdoor including smoking area and dog friendly!I like the food too, loved their croquettes while calamari weren’t so crispy for my taste, still had great time. Will be surely back! UPDATE came back for a great fish and chips! However, my partner got the steak sandwich, and in his opinion it was rather small and a little burned
We had a fabulous night at the Melbourne Public, really enjoyed the live music. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Great range of cocktails available at happy hour, best cocktails ever. I had the chicken ceasar salad, it was perfect. Highly recommend.
New spot for us. Love it. Parma great and Lamb Pie delish too. Nice warm and cosy spot on the terrace. Dog friendly, friendly staff. 10/10. We will be back for sure. Update: Came back again and had another great day of meals and drinks. Our new favourite casual hang out in Docklands. Once again, bar and food staff very friendly and helpful and food and drinks great.
