Reviews for Queen Victoria Women's Centre

I recently attended an event at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre. From the moment I entered, I was struck by the building’s thoughtful design, which combines elements of its historic roots as the Queen Victoria Hospital with modern architectural touches. This blend of past and present creates a space that is both elegant and welcoming. The Centre itself is more than just a venue; it is a hub for women’s empowerment and community engagement. Hosting programs, events, and workshops, it provides a platform for leadership, networking, and advocacy, reflecting Melbourne’s ongoing commitment to supporting women in all sectors of society. During my visit, I experienced firsthand how the Centre’s environment enhances the event experience. The staff were attentive and professional, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. The space fosters connection and reflection, making it an inspiring place to gather, learn, and celebrate achievements. Visiting the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre reminded me that buildings can carry both history and purpose, shaping experiences while symbolizing a community’s values. It is a remarkable example of how architecture, functionality, and mission can converge to create an environment that empowers and inspires.

This was the site of the former Queen Victoria Hospital before it's merger with Royal Melbourne hospital and it's repurpose into an events centre. It currently highlights and advocates for women's issues. The Queen Vic Hospital was a hospital that was dedicated to women's and children's health. It was founded by Australia's first female doctor Dr Constance Stone along other notable women. This hospital was unique especially in its time because it provided training, employment and healthcare opportunities for women. It was opened in 1896. Women only got the right to vote and stand for state elections in Victoria in a 1908 act although they had gotten the right to vote in federal elections in 1902.

We recently hosted our Growing Gender Equity through Local Impact event at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The venue is absolutely stunning. We booked the Millari Murnmut Room on Level 5, which is filled with natural light and includes its own kitchen and foyer area—perfect for guest arrivals and a seamless event flow. The standout feature is the beautiful rooftop space that surrounds the room, which added something really special to the day. The staff were exceptional. From the moment I booked a tour the week prior, through to the event itself, everything was handled with care and professionalism. Luci and Freyja were incredibly welcoming, kind and helpful, and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, including room setup, seating, AV and catering. The entire building is impressive, and the support we received made hosting our event easy and enjoyable. We had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this venue for any function. Also, make sure to visit the QVWC Shop, there’s something for everyone, and it’s a great place to find a unique gift. Overall, 10 out of 10 for both the venue and the support.

We’ve hosted a number of our events for Brown Women Comedy & Stellar South Asian Women Awards at QVWC and it’s a fabulous venue, their venue manager Piper is excellent to work with. I recommend both it as a venue as well as attending their well curated programs throughout the year - especially comedy!
