The Cullen is a striking contemporary boutique hotel inspired by the equally contemporary and striking artwork of Australian artist Adam Cullen.Aside from the obvious fact that the Cullen boasts a variety of high quality suites within its modern walls, the hotel is also home to a number of impressive and stylish function venues - to suit a variety of events.Siting resplendently atop the Cullen is the venue’s impressive rooftop space, great for receptions and meetings. For larger events, the rooftop is able to be combined with the adjoining Lady Luck penthouse. Also available is the Growler penthouse, with its oversized outdoor terrace with barbeque.The Cullen is located on Commercial Road in Prahran, just up from the always-buzzing intersection of Chapel Street. The Cullen is surrounded on all sides by tram options, with Prahran train station a short stroll away. It’s also a superb address for drinking and dining options - not that you’d want to leave the surrounds of the Cullen, of course.

The hotel itself and the rooms are far from 5 star. One of the two rooms we had smelt of food. The bathrooms are tiny and impractical. The car park is tiny and the hotel cannot guarantee a park even though you are a paying for it. We were told being eligible for a welcome drink as a Accor+ member after we had checked in. The receptionist asked me to come down again to get the free welcome drink, which we didn’t end up doing. There’s no restaurant or room service, even though they classify as 5 star. Positives are: the location is great. The rooms are specious and well equipped with kitchenette and amenities. The staff at the reception were helpful.

Location is pretty good. However, hotel is noisy and not a lot of sleep to be had though. Housekeeping start making a racket outside your room before 8am and are talking loudly to guests about cleaning their rooms. The doors are definitely not sound proof. I would say the windows are also not double glazed as you hear car alarms going off all night. Some strange art work. Don’t let this art series put you off though, as others are much nicer.

We had a very comfortable stay at The Cullen where the staff were extremely polite and very helpful. It was the perfect location as we were visiting our son and daughter in law who live in Prahran. Lots of good bars and restaurants and an excellent market across the street from the hotel. Good links to the city .

I specifically asked about noise at this location, and the booking agent did not raise that this hotel is right across from a nightclub, so both fri and sat nights were incredibly noisy, despite a room change after night 1, until dawn. Instead of a relaxing weekend away, I got even less sleep. I reviewed/did a survey afterwards, in response to email I received, and nothing was said/done. Would not recommend.

From the moment we checked in right up until leaving the staff were wonderful. The room was wonderful with clean comfortable furnishings and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The art work in our room and around the hotel is definitely a feature and draws your eye easily. We were given great recommendations for places in the area to eat. There a wide range of cuisines available within easy walking distance of the hotel, all those that we tried were great. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a quality stay in the Prahran area and it will be our first choice the next time we travel to the area.
