•In 1936, The Prince was the city’s grandest splash of art deco decadence. In the 40’s the US military set up camp, establishing an officer’s club and pretending not to notice the area relaxing into Melbourne’s red light district – despite a red light topping our rooftop flagpole. In the 70’s it was Pokey’s Drag Show & Pennie’s Nightclub, early institutions of the city’s LGBTQIA scene. Sex appeal and progressive politics. That ringing in your ears is from when The Prince was ground zero of Melbourne’s punk scene in the 80’s. Blood, sweat and beers. Architect Alan Powell was in charge of the clean-up in the late 90’s, with a sharp refurbishment that honoured our art deco heritage. By then, Australians were beginning to suspect our food scene was world-class; restaurant Circa opened its doors at The Prince and proved us right.
And as for right here and now? Prince Bandroom soundcheck is live. Little Prince Wine bar is flowing. Prince Deck is buzzing, Prince Dining Room kitchen is hot, The Atrium is cool and in our 39 boutique Hotel rooms, the beds are ready to be unmade. The event space is vibrant and versatile, making The Prince Hotel a favoured destination for private intimate gatherings, private dinner parties, stylish cocktail parties and corporate functions. With its historical charm, warm hospitality and modern amenities, it offers a unique setting for your private events
It’s great to see you back again, or for the first time, or forever.

It was really hard for me to step outside of my home. My friends pushed me to come out with them to see John Course play, but my mental health has not been at its best. It is not easy carrying a disability that people cannot see. I was nervous and extremely anxious, and most of the time I avoid going out because of it. But tonight ended up being one of the most important nights I have had in a long time. For the first time, I felt confident. I felt present. I felt like my disability was not something that held me back. And that confidence came from the way I was treated inside. The security guards with the tags 053 and 189 showed me real humanity. They were warm, patient and respectful. They understood my differences without making me feel different. They spoke to me like a person, not a problem. They made me feel safe when I really needed it. I am forever thankful
Really great experience, only a 700m walk from Acland street as well. They also gave us a discount for the late-night booking, which was a pleasant surprise. We called up a few minutes and booked our room, which was the final room remaining! The attendant was polite, efficient, and just an all-round a great guy. The room itself was small, but as expected, very clean and a well-stocked minibar and safe. Highly recommended
I stayed here for a week in total. Great location near the beach and tram stops. Modern interior. The price difference between the boutique and deluxe room can be small but the difference is huge. Service can make or break a place, and Patty was so welcoming and accommodating and cool - she made my stay.
4 of us had meals before a gig upstairs. Staff were great, my meal, a burger, small but OK & reasonably priced. My wife’s meal, the Caesar salad, smaller but nice & reasonably priced too. A steak was ordered, tiny with a tiny bowl of chips & NOTHING ELSE. Really disappointing, especially for the price you pay these days for steaks. Last meal was a small bowl of slop. They called it pasta, a couple bits of pasta in soup more likely. Go for the music, eat elsewhere.
Great location, great room and awesome service. Front desk helps/gives you as much information as possible to help with your visiting stay and tour. Best sleep I ever had, the bed is so comfy that I was undisturbed by my partnerys snoring. Pillows was 👌🏻 so so good! It was to work getaway/birthday stay, Didn't eat in the hotel but stayed in and enjoy mini bar offerings and Netflix. The stay was really relaxing and romantic.
