•In 1936, The Prince was the city’s grandest splash of art deco decadence. In the 40’s the US military set up camp, establishing an officer’s club and pretending not to notice the area relaxing into Melbourne’s red light district – despite a red light topping our rooftop flagpole. In the 70’s it was Pokey’s Drag Show & Pennie’s Nightclub, early institutions of the city’s LGBTQIA scene. Sex appeal and progressive politics. That ringing in your ears is from when The Prince was ground zero of Melbourne’s punk scene in the 80’s. Blood, sweat and beers. Architect Alan Powell was in charge of the clean-up in the late 90’s, with a sharp refurbishment that honoured our art deco heritage. By then, Australians were beginning to suspect our food scene was world-class; restaurant Circa opened its doors at The Prince and proved us right.
And as for right here and now? Prince Bandroom soundcheck is live. Little Prince Wine bar is flowing. Prince Deck is buzzing, Prince Dining Room kitchen is hot, The Atrium is cool and in our 39 boutique Hotel rooms, the beds are ready to be unmade. The event space is vibrant and versatile, making The Prince Hotel a favoured destination for private intimate gatherings, private dinner parties, stylish cocktail parties and corporate functions. With its historical charm, warm hospitality and modern amenities, it offers a unique setting for your private events
It’s great to see you back again, or for the first time, or forever.

A great art deco style pub close to all the bars and restaurants, great to do a weekend! keep in mind to stay f seeing a show at The Palais Theatre. You can then walk to the Sunday markets the next day. Great to have parking and cooked breakfast of your menu choice too! great service and price. We will come back in warmer months and do it again!
I stayed with my partner a week ago, and it was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. The front desk staff was immediately friendly, and answered any question we'd had, even though we're completely knew to booking hotels on our own. We got a lovely room with a nice street view, and the most comfortable bed. The interior was clean and tidy, and painted the most lovely sage green. It felt homely, and nice to come back to at the end of the day. Nothing was broken, everything worked, and the cleaning every day was done amazingly. It felt so luxuirous The bathroom felt clean. I'm a notorious germaphobe, and even when I know things are clean they can still feel unclean. Not here. Even the walls seemed to be clean! The mirrors never had any streaks, the shower didn't have mould, the towels were crisp and white and actually big enough. The complimentary shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and hand cream smelt luxurious. I felt so fancy every time I had a shower or washed my hands. I felt like I was on holiday and getting pampered. I looked forward every day to washing my hair (which is usually not an every-day task). The staff continued to be lovely and professional. Once, we had called the hotel desk about the TV and the next day she checked in and asked how our night had been. It felt like a safe and welcoming atmosphere. I find myself wishing we were back there!
A large number of my friends and family stayed here, due to having a party at The Epsy nearby. The rooms were a good size, stylish, clean and comfortable. Our direct booking also included free parking and a complimentary breakfast which was great. All the staff at the reception were friendly and responsive. They also hand wrote a happy birthday card for my husband with chocolates left on the bed. Great spot if looking to stay in St Kilda!
I went with my husband on Tuesday to celebrate my birthday and try the Pasta Night. I ordered the pasta, while my husband ordered the steak medium rare. Unfortunately, the steak arrived rare and had a bitter taste, and the pasta was overcooked. It was really disappointing, especially as we had chosen the restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The kitchen really needs some improvement.
I had a great stay at the Prince. Perfect location, very clean and comfortable rooms and the hotel itself is beautiful. Patty at the front desk is an angel and went above and beyond to accommodate my ever changing travel schedules. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Melbourne!
