I stayed here twice during my trip to Melbourne. Long story. I would say the hotel is more 3 star and trying to be 4 star with the potential. The staff did what they could to correct the problems I experienced in two different rooms (hair in the fridge/toilet on arrival, water coming out of the overhead bathroom light, broken coffee maker). Note that the carpet appeared to be quite dirty everywhere. I tried not to walk barefoot. They definitely need to remove and start over. The staff is all quite young with some being more enthusiastic about their jobs than others. All I spoke with were from other countries and knew limited tourist information. Hotel management would be well served to inform their staff to enhance the traveler experience. I did have an upgraded room during my second stay which was much larger and likely more comfortable for two people. However, was the same experience as a the less costly room otherwise. The location is excellent and surrounded by a plethora of restaurants/shopping and public transportation options are short walks away.

When booking a hotel, you expect 3 basic things - hygiene (cleanliness), rest (a good bed) and sanitation (hot water) - the voco Melbourne failed to meet minimum requirements. There was no hot water, a hotel-wide issue (and according to staff a regular occurrence). Breakfast was pretty good, except I needed to prompt staff to restock a couple of items. Staff were really friendly and helpful, but their product was ordinary. And their lifts very frustrating during peak periods. Avoid if you like warm showers.

This hotel was absolutely perfect for my two night stay in Melbourne with my friend. From the moment you entered the building, everyone was so warm and welcoming and even tho I was early for check in, they accommodated us anyway! It’s in a great location only a few minutes walk from Melbourne central station and the shopping centre within Melbourne central. Also only a little walk to Bourke street mall which is another great shopping location! The room was spotless, a little small for some maybe but exactly what we needed and we wouldn’t have needed anything more! I loved the quirky design this hotel has, it almost feels like you’re not in Melbourne in the best way! The only minor issues we had was the elevators were having issues one day which prevented us from getting to our room (this is at no fault of the hotel staff) staff were attentive and quick in resolving the issue! As well as a request for robes and toiletries that then had someone come to fix our TV? But this was sorted again very quickly and professionally. We also had room service one night which was delivered very quickly and was delicious! We did not have breakfast but I do regret that now because it did look amazing! Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for the location, the service and the beautiful rooms!

My family and I had the pleasure of staying for three nights at the Voco Melbourne Central this past weekend, and the experience was nothing short of magnificent. The breakfast buffet was a delightful daily ritual, with an incredible selection of fresh, high-quality produce and well prepared dishes. The evening cocktails at Blacksmith Lounge were equally impressive. What truly made our stay unforgettable, however, was the impeccable service. Every staff member we encountered was attentive, professional, and gracious. A special mention to Sam, the Hotel Manager. His presence is a testament to the hotel's commitment to excellence. He personally ensured our stay was seamless, offering thoughtful recommendations and checking in with a genuine care that made us feel incredibly valued. His leadership clearly inspires his team, and it shows in every interaction. Thank you again Voco, my family and I will be back soon!

I booked a two single bed standard room through Agoda for a work trip and despite showing this and how their company had set up the Agoda plaform, they insisted they had no two bed rooms available and tried to force me to pay extra for a rollaway bed so my coworker and I would not have to share a bed. If you do book this type of room, make absolutely sure you call ahead and confirm they will put you in the room you've booked. The staff member on the check in desk and the shift manager were both extremely rude and condescending and argued with us for quite a while about system technicalities (and blamed their marketing team and other factors for the issue with how the room comes through in their system) that my colleague and I had no control over, rather than providing good customer service. We were politely firm in insisting upon our consumer rights and did not raise our voices or speak to them with any of the disrespect they showed us. They eventually put us in a room they tried to say was an upgrade (a spa bath room we had no need of as work colleagues and needed us to squeeze between it and the large windows to close the curtains for privacy when using the toilet enclosed in a strange little shower cubicle) and would give the rollaway bed for free, then when the bed eventually was brought up, the room staff member said we had been put in the wrong type of room as it didn't have room for the bed and we would have a 30cm gap between the wall and bed to scoot through, and it would completely block the fridge (you have to get your own water to bring up to the room by the way). It took me calling Agoda for the hotel staff to call the room and advise they had found another room with two beds for us. He then took 20 minutes to come and give us the new keys (after housekeeping came into the room expecting us to already be out), offered no help with our bags or apologies for the many inconveniences, and silently stonewalled us as we went up to find the new room. The lifte are also very troublesome and you have 2 seconds upon entering to scan your room card to confirm the floor selection from the ipad outside or you're forced to get off and try and select it again. The lift also kept announcing it had registered a call for assistance and someone from the elevator help team would be in touch throughout the entire duration of our stay. Beware that the confusingly marked buttons for the lights in the bedroom also turn off the bathroom lights in case you or someone you're travelling with is using the toilet or shower when the button is pressed. The taps are an odd dial design which doesn't follow conventional right tight/off and left loose/open logic. I don't see myself ever using this hotel or any others in the brand again as I have never been treated more like dirt than by this hotel's staff on duty when we checked in. Edit: Please note that despite whatever they claim in the reply, the room was not 'premium' even if on a higher floor, it was extremely basic (smaller than the initial "upgrade" spa bath room) and they offered me and my colleague nothing in terms of comfort or real service. It was just what we had booked through Agoda (again, a platform their company chose to allow bookings through and mismanaged incompetently) but on perhaps a higher floor overlooking the dirty rooftops of other Melbourne hotels.
