Reviews for Peppers Salt Resort & Spa
Keith & Marlene Gray
Our recent stay at Peppers Salt Resort & Spa Kingscliff was overall restful and enjoyable, and we appreciate the effort of the staff in creating a relaxing atmosphere. That said, we would like to offer some constructive feedback in the spirit of helping the resort maintain the high standards guests expect. The resort itself is beginning to feel a little tired in places. In our room, a new air-conditioning unit had been installed, but the surrounding wall had not yet been patched or finished, which detracted from the overall presentation. There was also no television in the bedroom, which we found surprising for a resort of this calibre. In the restaurant, we noticed a recurring service practice where staff stack used plates quite high at the table when clearing. On several occasions cutlery slipped and fell to the floor. While we understand the intention may be efficiency, this approach can feel uncomfortable for guests dining nearby and may be worth reviewing from both a safety and guest-experience perspective. From a hygiene standpoint, we suggest reconsidering shared butter plates and knives, as well as communal condiments. Individual servings could provide greater reassurance and align with contemporary guest expectations around cleanliness. We share these comments respectfully and constructively. Peppers has a strong reputation, and with some attention to these details, the resort could more fully meet the expectations associated with the brand. We did enjoy a restful stay and hope this feedback is helpful in supporting continued improvement.

Was expecting Peppers experience, thinking it would be a nice , luxury escape but underwhelmed ! Check in lady was great but apart from that, most of the staff, especially the front desk staff would not look at you or acknowledge you if you walked past even when the reception was quiet. No friendly smile, no good morning how are you. No customer service skills whatsoever! We got told off at the pool bar saying this is a luxury a hotel when we were 2 mins out of happy hour and asked for the happy hour price. Sitting around main pool, discarded plastic drink cups left lying everywhere as well as food service cardboard containers . Not one of the waitstaff picked up any , repeat anything that was left finished by guests! I couldn’t take it any longer and cleared a space so we could sit down in reasonably clean beach area. No outside cleaning done around pool area as dried spilt tomato sauce was all over parts of seating area , tiling , lounge chairs around pool that was there for our three day stay. No attention to detail and getting tired look about it and needs a bit of maintenance. Parking spots extremely narrow. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable but overall disappointing to what we were expecting from a Peppers resort. Breakfast was the same, reasonably good breakfast but staff busy talking to each other rather than picking up plates from our table. Also , again got told off for touching pancake machine.

Checked in yesterday and the experience was extremely disappointing. The woman on the front desk was unhelpful, dismissive, and condescending in tone. We stayed here six months ago and had a great experience. When we checked out, we rebooked and specifically requested the same room, which we were told was secured. On arrival, we were given a different room and the staff member showed no interest in our prior request or our long-term loyalty. The room is dirty and very run down. Broken furniture, poor maintenance, and we even had a lizard in the room on arrival. The view is a brick wall and an unmaintained garden. At $3,500 for five nights, the value is unacceptable. We have stayed in far better accommodation at half the price. The only positive was a young man at the front desk when I returned to try and resolve the issue. He was professional, polite, and did everything he could to help, but being new and with no manager on site, he was unable to resolve the situation. We have been coming to Peppers Salt Village for 15 years, but this will be our last visit.

We have stayed here numerous times in the past. We have found Peppers to be good value for money and the staff to be most accommodating. This time however, Peppers has let their standards drop. Perhaps it was because of being heavy over committed with numerous functions occurring on the weekend of our visit. Issues: The room was well presented as always, however we had a delay in booking in due to the room not being cleaned until several hours past the 2pm check in time. When we got to our room the clean was not to standard, the floor had patches of dry sand on it, which you picked up on bare feet. Very problematic when it came to bed time. We asked several times for this to be rectified and we are on day 3 still with a sandy apartment. The kitchen amenities provided are very tired and makes food preparation challenging. Dull stained knives, lack of utensils - we had to use salad servers in place of tongs. At breakfast the dining staff were not as motivated to clear away dirty plates in cadence with leaving guests, creating a backlog with arriving diners. Of two toasters only one was operating properly which again created a backlog. We have stayed at this Peppers many times over the last 15 years both as a couple and as a family and would do so again but we are really hoping that management take note of reviews such as this and make the appropriate changes and improvements.

There is zero chance this is a five star hotel. It felt like a three star hotel with missing amenities and poorly maintained/thought out rooms. TLDR: stay elsewhere for a luxury experience, there is not one here. Looking back at reviews with a sinking feeling, it's clear that a mix poor management and privately owned rooms has dragged standards down so that even the bare minimum is hard to come by. Staff were generally lovely, but don't have enough resources to assist with anything. Gold status means nothing and doesn't get you any perks anymore - preorganised birthday gift was forgotten and late checkout wasn't allowed (first time in years this has happened!). Rooms (spa suite): The aircon was set to freezing on arrival to cover the musty smell. Any increase in the temperature made the whole suite stink. Even turned off, the musty smell was prevalent. Beds are comfy enough (2 singles put together), but the sheets are god awful. It's like sleeping on paper. Beds were covered in dust, which kept falling down from the ceiling vent despite having the sheets changed. Mould in the shower, toilet, and blinds. The blinds also aren't blockout and the bedroom door is glass, so waking with the sun is inevitable. Esp aggravating if you have little kids who sleep in. Large space enough space to relax in. TV was foxtel only and no way to connect your own devices or wifi. Amenities: Asked for slippers and robes (the floor had dust all over it) and reception said they had none, but would ask housekeeping to send some if they had any. No slippers or robes were delivered despite follow up. Nespresso had 2 pods only for the week duration. Pool with sand was nice, but really sunny and very cold. Warm pool was also without shade and hasn't been updated since the 90s. Roomservice QR code was closed the entire week. You can only get food/drinks at the bar from midday. On the weekend, they did bring it to your lounge. Food was heinously expensive. Breakfast for $26pp reserved the night before was actually better than expected (nicer than an airport lounge) with lots of options. EV Charging: The girl at the front desk had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about charging my car. There aren't any EV chargers, and the owners are petty enough to change the plug type and padlock them specifically so EV users can't charge their car. I can see a review as early as 2016 this was a problem that still hasn't been addressed.
