Auditorium
•City Recital Hall is tucked away in the city laneway of Angel Place Sydney, just steps away from Wynyard and Martin Place, in the heart of the CBD. By day, Angel Place is a favourite amongst business lunch diners and tourists keen to experience the iconic ‘Forgotten Songs’ birdcage installation. At night, Angel Place is closed to traffic, with restaurants extending their trade onto the street, and the party getting started at the nearby Ivy district. In 2024 City Recital Hall underwent a significant refurbishment, with new foyers, bars and amenities throughout, plus new dressing rooms, Green Room and Function Room.
City Recital Hall is best known for its auditorium, acclaimed as having some of the best acoustics in Australia. At 1238 seats across three levels, the City Recital Hall Auditorium suits a wide variety of music, talk, film, conference and party events. For smaller events, the stalls can be used in isolation (609 pax seated) and the stalls seating can be removed for parties. Since the refurbishment, further spaces have become available to hire, which can be utilised with an auditorium hire or independently. These spaces are versatile, and can be used for cocktail functions, meetings, functions, and VIP entertainment to accompany a live performance.

The acoustics was wonderful. I took my daughter to hear Mary Beard speak. She was a wonderful historian who spoke with in depth knowledge and a touch of humour. The event itself was very well organised
This is a really great space and quite intimate. We were there for the ABC program ‘The Piano’ and it was ideal for that. I don’t think that there would be any bad seats no matter where you sat. The piano playing and other instruments sounded so clean and clear. Definitely go again for another performance.
Great theatre. Built and fit for purpose with a great location. Great for orchestras with a decent bar and multiple levels for viewing/hearing. Surrounded by great restaurants if you want a nice meal prior or afterwards. Recommend.
Very convenient location so close to Wynyard. There are bars on several levels to buy wines which are poured into 'glasses' which you can take inside the concert hall.
I had no idea the Sydney Recital Hall even existed—until we mistakenly parked at the Opera House for a Sydney Symphony performance and had to make a mad dash uphill to the actual venue! Thankfully, the staff at the Hall were calm, attentive, and incredibly helpful. Even though we arrived late, they guided us on when and how to enter without disrupting the performance. The venue offers drinks, ice cream, and light snacks, which added a nice touch. The seats are a little on the firm side, but the acoustics are excellent and the layout ensures a clear view from almost anywhere in the hall. A beautiful, intimate venue worth discovering—just double-check your tickets first!
