We stayed at Peats Bite for a long, lazy, luxurious weekend away for our wedding anniversary, and it was one of the best weekends we’ve ever had. From the moment Jeff (owner and all ‘round legend) pulled the boat up to the jetty, we knew we were in for something special. Arriving by water gives it this instant feeling of escape, and the views over the Hawkesbury and the stylish venue itself is simply unreal. Proper “feel the serenity” stuff. What really makes this place, though, is the people. It’s a true family business - Tanya leads the show on land, and you can feel her Midas touch in every detail. Nothing is rushed, nothing feels like a transaction. The long lunch rolls out at its own perfect pace, the styling, atmosphere, music, beverage curation (the service and experience list is endless) is spot-on without trying too hard, and every unbelievably delicious dish just lands with this effortless confidence. The whole team is warm, down-to-earth, and genuinely SO good at what they do. No pretence, no attitude - just proper hospitality from people who clearly love the place they’ve created. We stayed overnight, and waking up to the stillness of the river in the picture perfect grounds of Peats was something else. Quiet, peaceful, and exactly what we needed, even the breakfast was out of this world! We left saying it was one of the best weekends of our lives. If you’re considering Peats Bite, just book it. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left.
Peats bite, The place bills itself as “rustic riverside charm,” but what they really mean is rusty pipes and riverside mosquitoes the size of budgies. The restaurant menu looked adventurous—if by “adventurous” you mean “culinary Russian roulette.” The most over priced set menu I’ve ever seen, it’s like they’re trying to be a fine dining restaurant in Sydney. Tanya, one of the owners, greeted us with a smile that suggested she’d rather be anywhere else—possibly at a better restaurant. Geoff handled the bar, where every drink came with a complimentary gnat. When I asked for a gin and tonic, he handed me something that tasted like regret mixed with dish soap. We decided to stay the night—big mistake. The room’s décor was a bold blend of “1970s caravan park” and “crime-scene chic.” The bed sagged in the middle like it was trying to swallow us whole, and the air-conditioning unit coughed itself into early retirement around midnight. The walls were so thin I learned way too much about the snoring habits of the couple next door. Breakfast was included, technically. Toast that could double as roof shingles and eggs that looked suspiciously philosophical—staring back at me as if questioning my life choices. Tanya said, “We like to keep it simple.” Mission accomplished. In short, Pests Bite is an experience I’ll never forget, mostly because my therapist says I need to talk about it. Between Geoff’s “signature cocktails,” Tanya’s enthusiasm deficit, and the mysterious crunch in the salad, I can confidently say: five stars for trauma, one star for effort.
We had a fantastic long lunch on Saturday and had booked out the accommodation for a group of family and friends to stay to celebrate multiple birthdays. 12 adults and 9 kids. Food was high quality and good value. Bungalows were comfy and easily had 4-5 in each. Stunning location on the river and was a blessing to have the pool given it was nearly 40 degrees! Whole service team were excellent and Gregoire was top shelf through the day, night and at Breakfast! Overall an awesome experience.
Our first visit back since the reopening. Amazing food as usual, great wine list, exceptional service from Tanya, Geoff, Greg and all of the staff. We stayed overnight and enjoyed not only the long lunch, but also a wonderful grazing platter for dinner and lovely breakfast with quite possibly the best coffee I've had in a long time!! 24 hours felt like we'd had a relaxing week on a tropical island.
We absolutely loved our long lunch and overnight stay at Pete’s Byte. The service and food was fantastic and the accommodation was great. The setting was magnificent. But most of all we loved the people. Tanya and Jeff were amazing hosts and made us feel so welcome and looked after. The waiting staff was lovely. The food was so amazing we loved every morsel and they accommodated us as vegetarians. I absolutely loved Gregg! He was my person!! Thank you so much. I’ve told all my friends. Can’t wait to return for another round!!!
