The heritage-listed Governor Bourke Ballroom is Q Station's largest function room. Reviews for Q Station Manly

This place is a must see in Sydney. The staff are lovely and its clear that they are invested in the site's heritage and preservation. The accommodation is comfortable with amazing views. Its not flash but its very comfortable, lovely views, new bathrooms and wifi. What more do you need? We dined at the Boiler House - great service and food. Going back for the three course with wine pairings, service impecable. Then we departed on the Ghost Tour which was a hoot. Very pleased to meet our room neighbours at the Boilerhouse (also going on the tour) and to know we were not alone in our building next to the Grave Diggers Cottage and a burial ground. Had a great laugh, great guide and met some lovely people. Highly recommend!

We have just completed a Winter Break stay. It turned out to be a fantastic few days at Q Station despite having to change our original booking because not enough info was provided when we booked via the advertisement on Facebook. It pays to read the website thoroughly to understand what's on offer - as there's no food available Mon-Thurs, so prior thought and preparation are essential. I'll be suggesting a few improvements to the website to make things clearer. HOWEVER - despite these initial hiccups the stay itself was fantastic. There were once about 20 quarantine stations in Aust and this is the ONLY one which has been preserved. If you're at all interested in people's lives and tragedies, this is a wonderful and fascinating place to stay. The atmosphere of these historic buildings in beautiful bushland overlooking the water and the Sydney ferries plying back and forth is unique. The little cove is a delight to swim in and the cafe on the wharf excellent. Sunsets are beautiful. Beds very, very comfortable. The two history tours are excellent. You can imagine the anxiety, the illness, the worry that people had, the deaths that occurred there, but you can also imagine the delight that for the healthy people interned there - especially the kids - must have felt absolutely marvellous after 4 or 5 months cooped up on a ship. We loved it.

There is no disputing the location and grounds of Q Station are beautiful however the rooms were pretty basic and in need of a refurbishment. Unfortunately the distinct lack of service really diminished or experience here. Wifi connectivity was poor and the tv in our room don’t work. We notified reception who advised they would send someone to fix it but never did. We had really been looking forward to dinner at The Boilerhouse and enjoying their menu which we had heard good things about but at the last minute the restaurant closed the kitchen and provided a very average buffet instead. The customer service within the restaurant was poor. The ghost tour however was fabulous and very informative.

The rooms are super quirky in that they are very basic / heritage buildings and that is great (beds are good) but the carpets could do with being changed , they are old and they smell, there are no drawers to put stuff in which I am perplexed about as rooms have the space for them. Kettle and fridges / etc are shabby and a bit grim - need an upgrade. Staff are nice. Location is just showstopping, we love it and will continue to come back for it.

A lot of mod cons have been introduced in the past 150 years, but unfortunately many are yet to reach Q Station. Unless you are after an authentically rustic experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. At least not in summer. After several warm days in Sydney, my basic but clean room became a hot box in which it was barely possible to sleep, let alone spend any time in. There was no way to cool it down. With no air con and no windows the only options were a barely-working overhead fan and leaving the door wide open. I asked at reception to move to a cooler room but they were fully booked. They did bring me a pedestal fan, but due to the position of the only power point it wasn’t much use either. Most guests seemed to be in the same boat. Walking along the verandahs you’d see people lying half dressed on top of their beds, with doors wide open trying to get air in. It was strange experience to have at an Accor property in 2026. The staff explained that due to the heritage listing, there’s no way to install air con. But there is more they could do. Just for starters a properly working overhead fan. Surely they could also supply portable air con units during heatwaves or look at ways people could air their rooms safely without having to leave them wide open to mozzies, wildlife and opportunistic thieves. This hotel would not be safe for elderly people during a heatwave. While I’m sure the conditions are an improvement on 1832, there’s still a way to go Accor.
