We had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to them. The food itself was good and enjoyable, which was definitely the highlight of the night. However, the overall experience was let down by several factors. Service was extremely slow, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t busy and there were three servers on the floor. We were initially seated downstairs, but no one came to attend to us at all, so we eventually had to move ourselves upstairs just to get service. The pricing also felt quite high for what was delivered, which made the experience harder to justify. We had mentioned in our booking (made through their website) that we were celebrating our anniversary, but there was no acknowledgment or special touch from the restaurant, which was a bit disappointing. On a positive note, we did receive a 50% discount on our bill as part of the website booking promotion, as explained by the server. While that was appreciated, it didn’t fully make up for the experience. Overall, decent food but the service and attention to detail really need improvement.

My friend and I decided to visit Hotel Plaza as we were looking for somewhere convenient in the city for an overdue catch up. The venue looked recently renovated. The fit-out was clean, sleek, and had a slightly funky feel, which made it a nice place to sit and relax. We went for the 2 for $40 steak deal, which came with chips and a cucumber avocado salad. Overall, the food was good, but nothing particularly memorable. The standout for me was the salad, although the portion size was a bit on the smaller side. Hotel Plaza is a solid option for a casual lunch or dinner when you just want something easy and central.

As we walked inside no one was there to seat us even though clearly there was an area to wait to be seated. We wanted to sit in the booths but all of them had dirty dishes lying there. We finally went to find a seat ourselves and tried to go to the bar to order. Only to find out you can’t order food at the bar and need to wait for someone to serve you. Finally someone came out to take our order and didn’t serve no water. We had to go up and get it ourselves. Just to find out one of the cups smelt like weird chemicals but we had to wait for a staff member to come back out on the floor to ask for a new one. We had to raise our hands up like children to even get some acknowledgment throughout the whole night. Finally when our food came, which we asked for medium well steaks, one was extremely blue rare. We wanted to tell someone but the only person who served us before clocked out. Leaving us to try eat around the barely cooked steak. Honestly all of us agreed that the chips was the best part of the meal. Plus everything was so overpriced with really bad and barely any customer service. All of the food came to $120 and we had to go pay at the bar since no one was to be seen on the floor

If you ever wanted to finish a meal fast just so you can get out of a place, I’d recommend this hellhole. Food was pretty okay, my friends and I would think about coming back if it was based solely on that. But the service was atrocious, they left us seated for longer than 15-20 ish minutes before getting anything done, yes we tried going to the bar but the till was apparently acting up (fine, not an issue unless you consider how long we were left alone), and tell me why the table next to us that came about 5 minutes after, got their whole service, they managed to finish their meals before we even got our incorrectly served food. The atmosphere would have been great too if someone’s depressing music wasn’t playing (Romantic Homicide by d4vd being the highlight of it all), which was more funny if anything, and the only thing that kept me entertained throughout the night, the same couldn’t be said by my friends.

Visited for a lunch meal, the restaurant is very quiet during lunch hours, so if you like pub food with a quiet atmosphere, this would be the place. The food itself was nice; however, I did use first table on this booking which gave it more value. At the regular price, it is probably on the expensive end of things. Had the chicken schnitzel with slaw and fries. The fries were very crispy and the schnitzel itself was too.
