I booked a table for lunch on 16 January, to celebrate our 42nd Wedding Anniversary, for my wife and I. Despite living in the area for a long time, we had never been inside the pub. We found ourselves located in a seating area on the front corner of the pub near Falcon street and my name was on a plaque on the table. I thought that was a nice touch. We had viewed the menu for most of the previous week, so I went to the bar and ordered. My wife chose the grilled Snapper, served with salad and chips. I ordered the half roast chicken with corn, green beans and rocket and four slices of Pita bread. We also had sides of a good bowl of broccolini and good size bowl of Lemon chat potatoes and grilled onion. My wife drank a bottle of sparkling mineral water and I had a tasty 180ml glass of Pepperjack Barossa Shiraz, to wash our meals down. We really enjoyed the meals, the food tasted great, were a decent size, and we ate everything on the plates. We didn't eat anything else that day. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful and exhibited best practice customer service. I joined Pub+ and added the app to my phone, so I could get a discount on the food and drinks. I highly recommend eating lunch at this hotel, on any weekday.

I don’t typically go for a 1 star rating but I’ve given the Crowie so many chances over recent years that I’m now convinced that a disappointing dining experience is what they are targetting. This week I was there for their Wednesday night steak special - would you believe this is on doctors orders due to a low iron count!! Anyhow, if you’re keen on a good mid week steak deal then I’d recommend the nearby North Sydney Hotel instead - I went there last week and it was great. And this is why I’m not recommending the Crowie. First up the booking: I booked a table for 4 at 6pm. The Crowie is massive so it took a while to find our table after a search of all downstairs then much of upstairs. We’d been assigned a set of chesterfield sofas around a coffee table which would have been fine if we were having cocktails but we’d booked dinner and this seating was wholly inappropriate for dining. So we moved to one of the many other more suitable tables that were luckily vacant. But it was the disappointing food that really did me in - tepid fries and an underheated very bland pepper sauce. Unfortunately this is by no means the first time the Crowie has delivered me tepid food. It’s possible that given the size of the place and the distance to the kitchen that the wait staff find it as difficult to locate our table as we did. Or maybe they just routinely serve cold and undercooked food. Anyhow, life is too short to be repeatedly disappointed so I’m unlikely to be eating in this place again any time soon.

Had a few beers at Crows Nest Hotel during happy hour, and it was exactly what I needed. The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, with plenty of space to sit and chat. The beer was perfectly chilled, and the prices during happy hour made it even better. The staff were quick and cheerful, and the crowd had that friendly local feel. It’s one of those reliable pubs you can always count on for a relaxed evening and good drinks.

Unnecessarily rude kid behind the bar refuses to turn up TV volume for the NBA finals in the SPORTS BAR citing “other patrons” — it was 10am on a Monday morning with not a single other soul. Two other blokes walked in and also were refused. Who wants to listen to red foo at pub in the morning you weirdo. Off to the oaks!!!

The prices are very high for the quality of the food and it needs better cleaning
