Reviews for Rydges Mount Panorama Bathurst

We stayed here for a couple of days, expecting a great experience. However, it was just above average for our expectations. The hotel itself is old and feels more like a hostel. The room had a kitchen, which is a good advantage, but the setup is too old. The TV doesn’t have YouTube or any other streaming services because it’s not a smart TV. The cleanliness of the room was below average. The best part was the great view from the room. It was very close to Bathurst shops, just 10 minutes away.

Unfortunately our experience was not great. Yes the rooms are spacious, but a bit grubby and tired. Needed a good vacuum around the edges. Service! Bed had the doona pulled up over wrinkled sheets, cups and glasses not washed up. Garbage bin not emptied. No shortage of towels though. Doubled up, why I have no idea. Catering 🥶. Unfortunately we dined there as a group on the first night. The food left quite a lot to be desired. Fortunately breakfast was passable, but then not much can go wrong. Except, no butter but vegetarian substitute, waffles so dried out and hard that the knife would not cut. The bar prices are quite high and ‘Happy Hour” applied to 2 different beers!” Think the whole place needs a bit of attention ad guidance

A very spacious hotel. The room was great and worth the price.. The pool was not open when we went there though. The buffet was not amazing though. I also wonder why a section of the dining area if closed even to hotel guests. The closed off section has all tables with complete utensil, napkins and condiments. Ours didn't.

I'm certain the appeal of Rydges Mr Panorama is based entirely in it's proximity to the racetrack as the hotel itself was not great for us. I booked a spa suite for myself and my daughter prior to our dance competition and needed space to get ready - hair, costumes, stretch etc). The room itself was a bit tired and lacking in the little details. There was a big rip in the sheer curtain, the bath had some wear and tear in the bottom that looked like dirt unless you inspected it closely and the heating is on split systems rather than central heating which dried us right out. My daughter and I took full advantage of the bathroom and she had a soak in the tub which was a great way to keep her warm and she suffers in the cold. As she was about to get out of the tub, the fuse for the room blew and we were both left undressed in total darkness. She screamed and freaked out while I stumbled around trying to find my phone so that we could turn the lights on. I called down to reception immediately and started getting us both dressed by tiny phone light. No one was around to fix the room so we were moved to a standard room on the 2nd floor with a promise of a massive refund. We settled into the new (not so amazing standard) room and found that it was not at all quiet, did not have the same standard of kitchen facilities and the toilet lid would not stay open unless you also raised the seat. It is not great to have to hold up the seat while you do your business! This room was also in a much noisier part of the hotel and we could hear doors slamming throughout the night (or at least until I finally conked out somewhere around midnight). In the morning, we skipped cooking breakfast, got hair and make up done in the tiny space and left as early as we could HOWEVER, having moved to this room after dark, I did not realise that we were not in a room with a private balcony anymore. That would have been nuce to know BEFORE I walked around the room in underwear and my daughter got dressed with the curtains slightly open as someone walked by and scared the crap out of us. So much for privacy! On departure, we were told the manager would be in touch. At the end of the day when no one had called, I got in contact with Rydges and was told they were sorry and they would give me a $100 refund. I paid $300 and feel very much like I should have booked a cheap motel in Bathurst, as it would have at least met my expectations or the standard I got at Rydges.

While most people seem to find this hotel great, my personal experience differed. For me, three things are essential in any hotel: the bed, pillow, and shower. This was my first stay here, and unfortunately, the bed was too soft, sagging in the middle. If you have back pain, I wouldn’t recommend sleeping on it. The pillows were overly thick and firm, which wasn’t ideal for neck issues either. The shower was set inside the bathtub, and with only a third of a glass screen, water splashed everywhere, leaving the floor soaked. The vanity lighting wasn’t bright enough, especially for a clean shave in the morning. A surprising letdown was that the drinking water bottles weren’t free—seriously? Even regional motels usually provide two complimentary bottles per day. The TV wasn’t a smart TV, so no Netflix or YouTube. On the positive side, the cooktop and kitchen utensils were handy.
