Reviews for Sir Stamford Circular Quay

I was thrilled to visit Sydney and spend precious time with my son, his wife, and their baby, sharing in the joy of family. We booked the Sir Stamford Hotel at Circular Quay, expecting a safe, high-standard place to make memories. But instead, this stay became a heartbreaking experience that I can hardly believe happened. During our stay, a heavy ventilation cover fell from the ceiling of my son’s room, hitting his arm, leaving him bruised and in pain. The image of what could have happened if it had struck my tiny grandchild still haunts me. I felt helpless watching my son, hurt and unable to even lift his child, due to what seemed to be the hotel’s lack of proper maintenance. I had expected compassion and a responsible response from the hotel management, but we were only offered a free meal—an offer that felt dismissive, almost insulting, in light of the fear and pain my family experienced. To add to the distress, my son’s family had to move to different rooms repeatedly due to various issues. Not once did anyone from management reach out to check on their wellbeing. It’s hard to express how upsetting this was for me. The hotel’s location is wonderful, and most staff were kind, but the lack of accountability and empathy left me feeling deeply disappointed. I wanted a happy holiday with my loved ones, but instead, I left feeling anxious, hurt, and saddened by this experience

Customer service is excellent. Check in check out very quick. I asked if they could put champagne and flowers in room for our anniversary and they did a superb job. I was offered an upgrade to a king with a view and wow ! Great view, great room ! Would definitely stay here again

Perfectly located! A block from Circular Quay and 3 minutes from the light rail stop and train station - this is the perfect spot to base yourself for venturing out wherever you choose in Sydney! The hotel itself is well-maintained and the rooms are spacious and well climate-controlled. The decor is really lovely too!

A Distressing Experience at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay. I am writing to express my absolute shock and frustration after my recent stay at Sir Stamford Hotel at Circular Quay in Sydney. My wife, our 6-month-old baby, and I were excited to spend time in the city with family who had come to visit us from overseas. We had high expectations for our stay at what was advertised as a 5-star hotel. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant experience turned into one of the most horrifying and disappointing experiences I've ever had. The incident that ruined our stay began while I was in my room. A heavy, sharp ventilation cover fell from the ceiling and struck me on the arm, causing a cut, bleeding, and a significant bruise. Had this fallen on my baby's head, the consequences could have been catastrophic. We were absolutely terrified. I immediately contacted reception for first aid. While I was receiving assistance, one of your staff members acknowledged how unacceptable the situation was and reassured us that the hotel "would take care of us." However, when I later spoke with the manager, his response was beyond inadequate. He expressed sympathy for the incident but offered us only a breakfast or dinner as compensation. This response was completely out of touch with the gravity of what had just occurred. My arm was in excruciating pain, I was unable to lift my child, and the safety of a newborn was put at risk—all due to negligence in maintaining the building. We were deeply insulted by this offer and chose to leave the hotel for a walk to try to calm ourselves down. And it gets worse. We stayed for three nights and were moved to a different room each night. The first room had a broken air conditioner. After the engineer confirmed it couldn't be fixed, we were moved to a second room—where the ventilation cover fell and injured me. After this, of course, we were moved to a third room. While the hotel is beautifully located and its staff, in general, are polite and friendly, the manager's complete failure to grasp the seriousness of the situation, and the general lack of responsibility taken for the incident, left me horrified. We requested to speak with the General Manager, but she was unavailable and never reached out to us. It’s hard to believe that a falling piece of the hotel could injure a guest and not warrant immediate and serious attention from hotel management. My recommendation: If you choose to stay at Stanford Hotel, you will certainly enjoy a good location, but be warned—the building is in poor condition, and if something goes wrong, you can expect no meaningful response or responsibility from the management. I left the hotel injured, with no follow-up and I will never stay there again.
