Reviews for Shangri-La Sydney

The hotel is in a great location and close to both Circular quay and Darling Harbour. We had a suite with Opera House views. The room had a very comfortable bed, a good shower and plenty of complimentary toiletries. However, the hotel is a little dated and would benefit from a refurbishment. I would still recommend it and would stay there again.

It was OK. The rooms are pretty good. The service was not very good. The location was whatever. I’m not really happy with the hotel. I expected a lot more from Sydney. I heard very good reviews especially on Google maps. But this was not it. If you’re looking for a hotel for your family vacation, I recommend going somewhere else. Not that it’s terrible but…yeah.

We booked a room for 3 people and received a room with two single beds. Staff later wheeled in a shorter single bed at the foot of our beds for the third person. There is hardly room to walk around the bed, and the entire room equipped toiletries for two only. We were able to order more toiletries to our room, but for the price of the hotel, the setup was disappointing. Beautiful view though.

An overpriced experience. It's old, stale, and dated for what is considered a luxury hotel. There's nothing special about it. The hotel and rooms need a complete update. The pool was awful... indoor over chlorinated, small and cloudy/dirty water. Its location is unfortunate... it's quite an uphill trek up Essex St from Circular Quay with several flights of stairs...manageable with an overnight bag only and a reasonable level of fitness! The Chi Spa was nice, and the Altitude restaurant on Floor 36 boasts great views if you are lucky enough to be seated at a window table but very pricey. Really, for the $$$$ you end up spending here, there are much nicer, more modern, cleaner, fresher places to stay. I wouldn't go there again. Overall, it was a really disappointing stay considering the Shangri La reputation.

As others have stated, totally agree: not worth $800 a night. Old dated rooms, so it’s just the view you get. Not even coffee pod machine or bedside usb ports. Bathroom is very dated. Nothing “ fresh” about this place. We thought we booked “something special” far from it. Staff lacked warmth and welcome attitude. However concierge staff on arrival and departure where excellent.
