Reviews for Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour
Jocelyn Seese
I booked through my credit card with my points as I probably couldn’t afford 5 nights otherwise. Definitely worth it. They upgraded me to a fancy corner room with view of Darling Harbour. Comfortable bed, amazing bathroom. Super clean. Only negative is no microwave and minimal fridge space. Breakfast buffet included a lot of food and was open past 9 unlike tiny continental breakfasts and they were very attentive. Good location in darling harbour, walkable access to ferries, shopping, restaurant (15-20min), long walk to the opera house (40 min) but doable. There’s construction happening right next to the hotel, made the pool area a bit less desirable, but by no means was that the fault of the hotel, pool was chilly but refreshing on a hot day, plenty of seating.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour for a couple of nights to celebrate our anniversary, and our experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, Tasfia at reception made us feel genuinely welcomed. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating, ensuring every part of our stay exceeded our expectations. Nothing ever seemed like too much trouble, and she consistently went above and beyond to make our anniversary feel special. Having worked in fine dining hospitality for over 15 years, I have a deep appreciation for what outstanding service looks like. Tasfia's level of hospitality was truly refreshing and is among the best we have experienced at any hotel around the world. She has a natural ability to make guests feel valued, and her warmth and professionalism left a lasting impression on both of us. The Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour is fortunate to have someone of her calibre representing the hotel. She is a true credit to the team and played a huge part in making our stay so memorable. Thank you to Tasfia and the entire team for such a wonderful experience. We left with fantastic memories and will absolutely be returning. We couldn't recommend the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour highly enough.

We stayed here to celebrate my parents' first trip to Australia and a special birthday occasion. The highlight of our stay was being able to watch the Vivid Sydney fireworks from our room. It was a wonderful experience and a memory that my parents will cherish for a long time. The doormen and porters were also very friendly, professional, and welcoming. However, there were several disappointing aspects. Before our arrival, I was told that a birthday request could be arranged, but there was no follow-up during our stay, and we never received any update despite asking staff. Better communication between staff regarding guest requests would be greatly appreciated. I was also disappointed by the attitude of one staff member, who appeared noticeably warmer and more attentive toward white guests than toward us. As a five-star hotel, I believe all guests should receive the same level of hospitality and service. In addition, the Wi-Fi connection was unreliable and kept disconnecting throughout our stay, which was quite inconvenient. I understand the hotel was extremely busy during Vivid Sydney, but given the reputation and price of a five-star hotel, I expected a higher and more consistent standard of customer service and staff training. Overall, the fireworks view was unforgettable, but the service experience did not fully live up to the hotel's reputation.

Stayed at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour recently and while it definitely isn’t cheap, the experience feels premium from the second you arrive. It honestly reminded me of the level of service you used to experience at Crown Melbourne before it went downhill. The porter greeted us as soon as we walked in and reception staff were fantastic, even welcoming me as an Accor member and reminding me that as a Silver member I received a complimentary welcome drink which was a really nice touch. The room itself was modern, comfortable and had absolutely amazing views. Everything you’d expect was there and the overall feel of the hotel was luxurious without feeling pretentious. The only real negative was the Wi-Fi which was honestly shocking. We couldn’t reliably cast to the TV and struggled using it in general which was surprising for a hotel at this level. One thing I loved was when we headed out at night for a nearby concert, the staff at the outside desk were actually playing music from the band we were going to see. Such a small detail but it made the atmosphere really fun and memorable. They were also super helpful with directions and local advice. It was a shame we had to leave early because I’ve heard the buffet breakfast is incredible. We would absolutely stay again. The location is also perfect right on Darling Harbour opposite Cockle Bay and within walking distance to pretty much anything you need.

We’ve stayed at Sofitel in Brisbane a few times and always had a great experience, so for our first trip to Sydney, we decided to stay with Sofitel again. Thankfully, it didn’t disappoint — Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour still delivers the level of quality and service you’d expect from the brand. The location was also incredibly convenient, making it easy to get around Sydney and access all the major attractions and transport options. We stayed for two nights, and the view from our room was absolutely five-star worthy. We were also lucky enough to catch a fireworks show on one of the evenings. Being able to enjoy the fireworks safely from the comfort of our room, while still feeling so close to the action, was truly amazing. The room amenities were excellent, including a pillow menu with different options to choose from — although I still brought my own personal pillow. The bed was very comfortable, with a medium-soft feel. The bathtub was lovely and relaxing, though adding a non-slip mat or grab handle would make it even better from a safety perspective. One feature I especially enjoyed was the shower setup. It had both a rainfall shower and a detachable handheld showerhead, and the water pressure was fantastic. The in-room dining service was also impressively quick, with our meals arriving within 20 minutes. Breakfast was delicious. As shown in the photos, It’s our Room 2315 during this visit.
