🪐 went here yesterday, had a very fun, informative experience. The representative from the Astronomical Society was very wonderful, explained everything in a very enjoyable accessible manner and was open to questions from all. Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone interested in Astronomy and telescopes!  🪐

A lot of merchandise and it is better in summer :)

We went to star gaze but the weather had different plans for us. It was cloudy and overcast so the guides had to improvise. They were fantastic! Knowledgeable, no question was too big or small. A fantastic tour of the buildings and of course the telescopes themselves were impressive. I'd like to go again on a clear night.

A very interesting experience and tour taking you through the history of Astronomy in Melbourne, in addition to seeing (relatively) nearby planets and constellations from the telescope. You of course need good weather, but it was really interesting nonetheless listening to the staff and seeing the various different telescopes at different sites. Very good tour and would highly recommend to occupy an evening!

It's a curious group of old buildings near the gate of the Royal Botanic Garden. Nice place to walk around and explore.

Two breakout spaces and outdoor courtyard, the Ellery suite has an abundance of natural light and dedicated entrance.

In the event of wet weather, you have the option to reserve the Eastern Transit Room or the Ellery Suite, both of which are within the Old Observatory Building.

Ellery Suite

With stunning 20 foot ceilings and baroque windows at either end, this is a flexible event space for wedding ceremonies, seated dinners, cocktail events and corporate workshops. Space can accommodate up to 70 guests for a seated event or 100 for stand up. It has a dedicated external entrance and adjoining room available upon request.

Eastern Transit Room

We have a range of lawn areas & pavilion spaces available throughout the venue that have capacities from 10-200 guests. 

Whether a corporate Christmas party, bridal shower, birthday celebration or wedding the lawns provide a stunning backdrop to all events. Food & beverage packages along with furniture hire & styling can all be arranged so you simply need to turn up & enjoy the day.

Outdoor Lawn Areas 

This lush green lawn is perfect for ceremonies that require close gate access in luscious surrounds — providing a natural shade canopy for guests. Alongside its beautiful trees and natural setting, it is conveniently located near B Gate and restrooms.

Tennyson Lawn

Popular with those having a reception at the terrace, taxodium lawn is an ideal breakout area for your event. Named after the beautiful taxodium distichum tree beside
the ornamental lake, this space is home to our resident swans and ducks, offering a perfect combination of nature and wildlife.

Taxodium Lawn

This is a romantic pavilion in which to make your vows, particularly when it is covered with blooms around November and March. It is an intimate space centrally located within the gardens available for ceremonies of up to 45 people.

Rose Pavilion

Nymphaea lake acts as a showcase for the gardens’ collection of water lilies, Japanese irises and other aquatic plants. The peak time for this location is in high summer when the multicoloured lilies are in bloom; however, the lake and its surrounding lawns are gorgeous year round. The east side of the lake is expansive with undulating hills;
and the west more intimate for those seeking privacy. 


Nymphea Lake East

Available for ceremonies of up to 60 people, Tecoma Pavilion provides shelter and the ideal outdoor setting. With views to government house and the city skyline, it has a garden feel with an impressive backdrop.

Located opposite the gardens shop, lakeside and the terrace, this popular lakeside space offers an expansive lawn and palm trees — adding to the picturesque garden
surrounds. Larger than its opposite neighbour taxodium lawn, picnic point can comfortably fit a large guest list for a ceremony. 

Picnic Point

With a sweeping view out over central lake, princes lawn cuts a manicured green swathe through to the centre of the gardens. princes lawn is sheltered by many of the garden’s oldest trees and is located right next to the rose pavilion.
