We went to the bistro for a family get together. This is our third visit. The meals are very very nice but on this occasion the meals came out in three stages and the first meals were finished before the last meals were served so they need to work on the speed of getting mails to the table. My wife Had chicken scallopini and it was cold when she received it unfortunately. It is a very noisy venue also

We hosted my mum’s 50th birthday in the Tabu Room on January 17th. I contributed financially to the event after personally recommending this venue, as I had my 30th here previously and it was perfect. Unfortunately, the service for my mum’s 50th did not come close to that experience. When we arrived to set up, staff seemed unsure of what they were doing and were trying to work out the music and lighting on the spot. While this alone could have been forgiven, there were multiple issues throughout the evening. The photo booth we had paid extra for had not been charged, and staff were unaware it even needed to be. Luckily we noticed during setup and plugged it in ourselves, otherwise it would not have been ready when the event started. The HDMI cord provided for the projector was also faulty. The venue itself was not clean on arrival. The floors were dirty and the pool table was covered in food residue. Staff told us the space had already been cleaned, but we had to request it be done again. To their credit, everything was clean by the time guests arrived. The balloon package was beautiful and the food was delicious. However, when it came time for speeches, the microphone had not been charged and did not work. Individually these issues might seem minor, but together they showed a clear lack of preparation. The biggest disappointment of the night was the staff attitude at closing. While guests were calmly saying their goodbyes, one bouncer was unnecessarily aggressive, pushing people along despite there being no issues. The venue closed at 12am and everyone was outside by 12:07. Additionally, a blonde staff member behind the bar in a white button-up shirt was extremely rude and unpleasant. When I went to retrieve my bag and laptop from behind the bar, she shoved them into me in a passive-aggressive manner. After my sister and I commented that the staff could at least crack a smile given the amount paid for the event, this staff member overheard and aggressively yelled at us "oi! What was that!!" and appeared ready to start a confrontation. We chose to ignore it and leave, as we were not causing trouble. She then continued loudly complaining about us after we had walked away. I understand staff were likely tired and wanting to go home, but when customers are paying thousands of dollars for an event, professionalism should be maintained until the very end. I work in the spa industry and understand how challenging closing time can be, but customer service still matters. The following day, a friend returned to collect remaining items and encountered the same staff member, who was again very unpleasant. We were told the main event manager, Bec, was on leave, which may explain the disorganisation. That said, it is disappointing that the venue struggles to operate smoothly without her. While there were some positives, the negatives ultimately overshadowed the experience. Compared to how flawless my 30th was, this was incredibly disappointing for the amount of money spent. I truly hope this was a one-off.

Attended a function. Food was excellent. Customer service was excellent. A person at our table had health issues and was unable to eat the food served. The York had not been notified if any dietary constraints but promptly cooked meal of tender steak and vegetables.

Had dinner at The York on Lilydale over the weekend and honestly, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. We were lucky enough to have a quick chat with the chef, Jason, who was absolutely lovely and clearly passionate about what he does. You can tell when someone really cares about the food they’re sending out — everything from the presentation to the flavours was spot on. I ordered the hoisin lamb ribs (tender, sticky, and full of flavour) and my partner had the beef curry, which was rich, perfectly spiced, and super comforting. Jason even came out to check how everything was, which you don’t see often these days. It’s so nice to see a chef who takes pride in both the food and the experience. Big compliments to the team — we’ll definitely be back!

We had dinner in the bistro with a group of my son's friends for his birthday on 22/11/25. All the staff were great and our meals were good, but there was one staff member in particular who made our night better. A lady by the name of Michelle was working and she was so smiling and friendly throughout the night despite my 17 turning 18 year old and his mates being a bit rowdy. She was very efficient and organised the cake, plates etc after we'd finished our meals. Given the large quantity of meals, on a very busy night, the timing of service was quite impressive. I also know that by the time we left at closing, Michelle had had a very long day as she was there in the morning when I dropped the cake off so to maintain such a friendly and professional demeanor was much appreciated.
