Reviews for Arts Centre Melbourne

I was lucky enough to head along to the Art Centre for Horizons opening community performance and my god, I can not rave about it enough. If you ever get the chance to see a show from the Bangarra Dance Theatre take it. They have such a beautiful way of storytelling through dance that lights up a room. The Art Centre puts on so many amazing performance but the location itself is something to marvel at. The whole place feels like it’s built to host spectacular productions and it sure does. There’s the most beautiful light fixtures in every room and the bars look like the perfect place for a cocktail before a wonderful evening. There’s so much history on display in each room with sets from previous show in glass cases, and old costumes lining the walls. I love how lively it always feels and the warm theatre tones feel so vibrant and alluring. If there’s any place to catch a show it’s in these beautiful halls. After the show you can also get a photo outside of the towering structure above the many theatres which is lit up each night. It’s right on the river which means just across from the original art centre building are breathtaking city views both on the bridge and from above. Climbing up the stairs above Hammer Hall is always a breathtaking sight and well worth a bit of exploration. If you’re in the city looking to explore or a tourist wanting to catch the sights along with a show this is the place to be!

It is located right next to the National Gallery of Victoria. At the top of the building is a large structure similar to the Eiffel Tower. There is a nice music exhibition on the ground floor. They exhibited some of the items used by old musicians on stage. I'm sure there were some great plays being watched on the stage inside. ambiance looked great.

Attended recent Bangarra Dance Theatre show Horizon. Began with finding a car park that was easy on this Friday night late August 2024. Followed Google maps to the entrance, chose the left side driveway and parked just near the entrance to the main building and floor for the show. Well we sat in the stalls down one flight of stairs. There are lifts if you need them. A busy night with almost a full house. Was able to buy a last minute ticket for a friend to join us. Loved the show it was riveting moving and unique as it was a Torres Strait Islander and Māori story and ensemble. Great sound track and visuals. I guess I needed to read the program and afterwards a couple of reviews to fully grasp the meaning behind the movements. Intermission was good, service was cheerful and overall the experience wonderful. I’d like to also say my sister and I had snacks and dinner at the Barre restaurant. With a little encouragement we connected with the staff and enjoyed friendly service throughout. As it was my 67th birthday that day it was nice place to enjoy ourselves. My sister had the duck pate and I had the baba ganoush with hot bread that was fabulous. Also the Hepburn Springs mineral water was the best. Great pre-show destination. It was busy so best to book if you have four or more people. Enjoy the rock and roll museum visit there, lots of memories!

Plenty of things to do great access ♿ lots of people as you would expect. Go for a stroll and check out the electronic led birds and sculpture things before a show. Easy taxi drop off and pickup for wheelchairs.
