We had dinner today around 4:30pm. The atmosphere was good and the service was good. However, the food was extremely disappointing. I’m a coffee lover, a food enthusiast, and I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for several years, so this experience was very underwhelming. First, the food prices don’t match the portion size or quality. Second, the salad tasted old, as if it had been washed and left out for too long. It cost $26 and had barely any ingredients, as shown in the photo. The fish seemed slightly undercooked, the chips were okay, and the burger’s beef patty was dry. The coffee was the worst part. The texture was nowhere near the standard of an Australian flat white. It tasted burnt, with almost no flavour other than a smoky, burnt note—nothing like the coffee photos shown on Google reviews. We were also told that we had to spend a minimum of $25 per person to access the Christmas Hall, which felt quite pushy considering we were already there to dine in. Overall, the place is nice and the staff are lovely, but the food and drinks really fall short. You can do better, The Grounds.
The Grounds lives up to the hype. Walking in feels like entering a magical garden. The current installation is incredible (perfect for photos!) and the atmosphere is buzzing. We grabbed a coffee and a pastry from the bakery and explored the laneways. The coffee is top-tier and the setting is just beautiful. It gets very busy on weekends, but it is absolutely worth visiting for the experience.
The Grounds of Alexandria The Grounds of Alexandria is a Sydney institution that masterfully combines dining, design, and atmosphere into an immersive experience. Set in a repurposed industrial precinct in Alexandria, the venue feels like a whimsical escape — part café, part garden, part event space — where every corner invites discovery. Lush greenery, rustic brickwork, and vintage décor create a uniquely Instagram-worthy backdrop. The food reflects the venue’s farm-to-table ethos, focusing on freshness and presentation. The all-day menu balances comfort and sophistication, with standout dishes like the *Grounds Breakfast* (a hearty classic with artisanal touches) and the *Middle Eastern Lamb Salad*, full of texture and vibrant flavor. The coffee, roasted on-site, remains among the best in Sydney — rich, smooth, and consistently well-crafted. Weekends can be busy, and queues are common, but the attentive staff and efficient service help maintain a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The family-friendly setting, complete with farm animals and themed installations, adds to its charm. Whether you’re there for brunch, coffee, or an afternoon wander through the gardens, The Grounds of Alexandria offers more than just a meal — it’s an experience that celebrates community, creativity, and the simple pleasures of good food and good company.
The food and drinks menus are always updated, absolutely stunning, and it's pet-friendly, but your pets need to stay on the ground, not on your lap. They don't provide blankets, so bring your own cushion or blanket for your fur baby. The bathroom is well-designed with a rustic interior, just a little too dark. Reservation recommended
Not very sure how this place is run, it has several eateries in one big place, each run their own accords, we went for lunch and moved to another section for drinks and desserts. The lunch was good, tasty and delicious, however I think it's expensive, though you will enjoy the atmosphere and beautiful setting. We were there on Saturday so it was very crowded and rather messy. We were a bit disoriented where is the cafe. A certain area were cornered off with Christmas deco and not accessible unless you present your spending receipt.
