Stadium
•McDonald Jones Stadium, formerly known as Hunter Stadium, is the centrepiece of the Hunter Venues sports precinct. Originally known as the International Sports Centre, it was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on April 10 1970.
This rectangular multi-purpose outdoor stadium with a capacity of up to 30,000 is home ground to the Newcastle's two flagship sporting franchises, the Newcastle Knights and the Newcastle Jets. The Newcastle Knights have claimed the NRL Premiership on two occasions in 1997 and 2001, while the Newcastle Jets were victors in the 2008 Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
The venue was managed by the Newcastle Knights from 1988 until 2011 when the NSW Government took ownership. McDonald Jones Stadium is part Venues NSW’s portfolio which includes ANZ Stadium and CommBank Stadium in the Greater Sydney region, WIN Sports and Entertainment Centres in Wollongong and the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Showground in the Hunter region.
The venue has undergone a large scale redevelopment which commenced with the building of the Andrew Johns Grandstand in 2003. The following four years saw the demolition and rebuild of the Western Grandstand. The newly constructed Western Grandstand was first open to patrons in April 2011 for the Newcastle Knights match against St George Illawarra Dragons.

Love everything about this stadium! The stadium’s continuing relationship and support of the Knights allowed me to meet the hardworking, fabulous and legendary volunteer of 36 yrs, Maggie. Great concert venue too! The Paul McCartney show was well organised and ran smoothly. The team should be commended for their organisational skills. It was a sensational evening! Long live the Newcastle Knights and may the stadium remain a concert venue well into the future. Kind regards, Shelly
Attended for the first time for purpose of a concert. Getting to the location is fairly straight forward, parking however can be an issue although lots of public transport available. Plenty of staff that were friendly and helpful finding correct seating areas etc. Having sat for hours on end the seats weren't too bad and the stadium was in general clean. It was quite disappointing however that the toilets were not cleaned prior to gates opening especially when hosting such a top notch artist for people to come to. Every toilet in the male toilets was disgusting and went in straight after gate opening. Only other let down was the quality of the food for the price and cost of water at that price it definitely wasn't holy water..
Women's State of Origin Game 2. Wet night, but fine under cover. Plenty of choice for food and drink, easy enough to exit. Uber pickup spot is in 7/11 service station funnily enough
Great venue with excellent facilities. Home of the Newcastle Knights (Rugby) and Newcastle Jets (football). Good accessibility, service lifts. Easy to arrive in public transportation
Awesome viewing from every angle with big screens. Great stadium.
