Have stayed here before and it is a simple location close to what we needed to attended. Stayed this Friday 18th and had the worst nights sleep due to the bottom sheet of the bed not being long enough so that it kept creeping up. Spoke to the receptionist in the morning and they arranged for someone to go fix it. Spent the day out and arrived back after 11pm to find the bed made still with too short of a bottom sheet. Considering the cost of the rooms I believe it is reasonable to think the bedding should fit. Will look for an alternative location in next time in Sydney.
Not to bad actually. Bar and dining area was nice. Service a little show. Only 2 people behind the bar for the entire wedding party, although cocktails were amazing! Rooms were nice and clean. Only thing I would complain about were the pillows. They were rock hard and way to big. Felt like my head was perch up on a mountain while my body was laid flat underneath. Made for a very uncomfortable sleep.
We recently stayed here to attend a family wedding at a nearby location. The check in was simple but utterly underwhelming. We didn’t know it at the time (the room was booked and paid for by my parents), but we had been gifted a ‘Romance’ package which included 1pm checkout, breakfast and secure parking. No mention of this was made by the check in person, so my car sat out in the open parking lot all night. Thanks for that. Sure, the room was clean, but the ironing board was broken which was frustrating because I had to iron my shirt for the wedding which was starting shortly after check in. So I borrowed the ironing board from my parents’ room as they were also staying there. After the wedding reception we came back to the bar, at which time the pompous English fool who seemed to be portraying the role of the ‘manager’ instructed us we would be allowed to have ‘one drink only’ because they wanted to close. At 9.45pm. On a Saturday. Between the 5 of us we would have spent hundreds of dollars if they had remained open. Instead, we were told to go to the Catholic Club nearby. Then, after we had received our ‘one drink’ and settled into the lounge area (where the aforementioned fool had said we could sit), he came over and said we had to move so he could turn the lights off in the area where we were seated. So lovely to be treated this way as guests of the hotel. The young female bartender had no idea, when asked, if there was single malt Scotch available. Really? Next morning we had our breakfast (which was pleasingly hot, fresh and delicious) and went back to the room to enjoy the (let’s be honest about this) sheer luxury of a 1pm checkout. I went back to sleep! No such simple pleasures at home with pets requiring my constant attention. Then, finally, to most appropriately polish the turd of this experience: *ring ring* *ring ring* (I’m asleep, and sleepily answer the phone) Hello? (Surly young lady sneering down the phone line at me) It’s reception here, just wondering when you’re going to check out, because check out is 11am you know. (I check the clock and it’s 11.18am) We have a late checkout of 1pm, according to the information card left in our room. Well, did you *inform* reception you were going to check out at 1pm? (Keeping with the crap attitude and tone) No, I wouldn’t have thought that would be required. We have the Romance package. I believe it’s pretty clear by the information written on the card left in our room that check out is 1pm. (Confused typing in the background) Well, I can’t see that… oh… wait… yes I see it now. Good job you, thanks for waking me up. *hangs up* The hotel is conveniently located and in terms of being a building with rooms, a bar and restaurant, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. It’s a shame that they employ some absolute donkeys who do not at all represent how I think Rydges would like to be perceived. We’ve had great experiences at other Rydges hotels. Considering we weren't allowed to properly enjoy the benefits of the gift of the Romance package we received, and the poor non-efforts of staff, this experience sucked. Won’t go back, do not recommend.
Clean, comfortable, well maintained rooms at reasonable rates. Lovely, helpful staff on the front desk and at the bar. Excellent bar area and restaurant. Definitely a place to come back to.
Reception was very helpful, however rooms are a bit dated. Aircon can not be controlled further and have to call reception to be able to make the room colder. Chromecast continued to disconnect from phone and had to continue to pair it whilst watching things on chrome cast. Location is fine if you have family or events nearby, so suited our needs. Otherwise enjoyed the stay for the price we paid.
