Absolutely amazing views of the blue mountains from the dining room and our bedroom. The food in the restaurant was sublime. Traditional, beautifully cooked and presented, gourmet presentation too. One of the best meals we have had. My partner is vegetarian and raved about the depth of flavours and combinations of flavours and stated it was the best vegetarian meal he had tasted in 40 years. The bed was very comfy and the jacuzzi bath eased all aches and pains after lots of walking that day. We liked the sticker on the tap saying it was cleaned after every guest visit. Needs updating and we had a giggle at the mosaic outside the old entrance for the California hotel. The long corridors reminded us of The Shining too. They had a pianist on the Saturday night in the bar area. Played slow jazz at breakfast. Great value hotel with an outstanding restaurant and fantastic views, just a bit dated.
Mountain Heritage is a great hotel. It is like stepping back in time as you walk through the halls, up the spiral staircase and enjoy a cocktail on the bar on the ground floor. The views are spectacular and the sitting areas are cosy and welcoming. The food in the restaurant is wonderful and the stand out feature is the delightful staff who went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic. I would like to highlight Molly who welcomed us in reception and was very kind assisting us to make sure our older parents (in their 70s and 80s) had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique and welcoming place to stay.
Perfect location in Katoomba with a off street walkway to the village. The hotel has an old Victorian vibe. The rooms are small and dated but showers and toiletries are adequate. I would rate as a 3 star hotel as no in room safes and old analogy TV with 2 working channels. The breakfast was mediocre- canned peaches in summer, not fresh pastries, filter coffee and ran out of food itemshalfway through the service. Non mountain view rooms have no view at all. Staff are friendly and nice location. Plenty of free parking at the rear and e chargers for the greenie. The views from the front balcony are amazing and very pleasant place to spend the evening. Jamieson restaurant is expensive but we'll worth the price and the food is just incredible. For breakfast rather than pay additional 6$ for barista coffee-better to go to town and get a fresh pastry, fruit and coffee at one of the many bakeries.
Stayed in the Spa and Fireplace room on the first floor. It is difficult to carry bags up the narrow staircase but I was offered help by the staff – there is no lift. The carpeted floor in the room is very creaky which fits with the old world heritage atmosphere but may be a negative for some. The bathroom was good except for the lack of pressure in the shower and it is very difficult to get the temperature right as there is a huge delay between adjusting the tap and the temperature changing – persevere and you’ll get it in the end after being frozen then scalded several times. The king bed was super comfy and the linen and pillows excellent. The gourmet cookies on the bed were much appreciated as were the additional biscuits in the tea & coffee supplies – something seldom seen these days. Overall - loved the big spacious room. Bar – Cocktail list is limited and the barman was unable to make requested cocktails because of a lack of ingredients. You used to be able to order any cocktail here but management has restricted this now so you need to choose from a half dozen “signature cocktails”. The few cocktails you can get were delicious though (but slightly expensive at $25 for simple mixtures) Breakfast – You used to get a mimosa here to start but not anymore – another sign management seems to be cost cutting. The once great continental breakfast has been severely diminished with absolutely no fruit & berries – fresh or stewed, no yoghurt and the croissants ran out at 8:45am on a Friday morning. The a la cart "hot breakfast" was superb though and made up for the meagre continental offering – but some tommy sauce either in a bottle or single serves wouldn’t go astray..
Lovely spacious rooms with big beds and good wifi. Efficient friendly staff. The bar area with its beautiful views and the library are lovely places to sit. Walk into the main street is 10 minutes.
