•We are a community-focused restaurant and bar that strives to provide bold and heart-felt food and drinks at affordable prices. Focusing on using smaller producers and sourcing local food wherever possible, we offer an ever-changing menu designed around share plates and a standout drinks list to match. This 15 years young restaurant is truly a cult classic. The kitchen and bar take centre stage in the narrow terrace, providing a vibrant beating heart to the venue. The space is broken up into several areas; a front bar area, where you can sit and watch the fun on King Street, the main dining room with its red tables and low hanging lights leads you through to a rear deck that’s drenched in sun during the afternoon. There is also a private dining room that can accommodate groups of up to 14 people. All areas are available for private events and parties. Head chef and owner Claire Van Vuuren’s food is bright, creative, eccentric and packed with flavour. Claire and her team are passionate about sustainable and naturally made wines that pair perfectly with her food. The beer list is extensive, going from local classics to international cult favourites. There is also a very tasty list of house made cocktails.
Our main dining room takes centre stage and is the largest space for our guests with the most tables. This option is best for those who want to be in the spotlight and enjoy our communal vibe with our attentive waitstaff.
Our bar is both relaxing and intimate. This option is best for those who like to people-watch and bask in our light installations which give a beautiful red glow to all around. There is also street seating al fresco available on the side.

We had our wedding dinner at Bloodwood with 60 of our closest friends and fam. Staff were insanely helpful, nothing too much trouble. We dropped off all our decorations and the team very kindly worked their magic with them - not that the space needs any decoration, it's already gorgeous. Team were flexible with meeting our special requests like swapping out desserts for some welcome drinks. Guests loved the delicious share plates, were impressed with the wine selections and the cocktails were delightful. Highly highly recommended if you're looking for an intimate option for a wedding or other function - your guests will be raving about it and we had absolutely 0 stress whatsoever leaving us free to enjoy the heck out of our wedding day. Group of 6 girls for a birthday celebration on a Monday night. The food was absolutely unbelievable. There was 6 of us so we were lucky enough to try a total of 9 dishes. The persimmon and pomegranate salad was a crowd favourite along with the smoked corn and leek croquettes. The stuffed portobello mushrooms were special as were the prawns. The servers were absolutely fantastic and I would recommend everyone to go there for any occasion. It is very reasonably priced.
The dishes were solid but nothing to rave home about. We had the pecan pate, fried polenta sticks, scallops, tuna tartare, broccolini and fried chicken. It was all nice but nothing exceptional and nothing that a skilled home cook couldn’t replicate. Also at $10 for one average scallop (again not stunning produce) the prices were on the steep side. Tables very close together. We heard every word of the date next to us which can be entertaining depending on your mood. Overall ‘meh’ rating.
Bloodwood… more like Bloody Good! Enjoyed a lovely dinner here, sat out on the patio but the interior also seemed an equally nice spot to share a meal. Ordered the the scallop, pecan pate, honeydew&cucumber, octopus&chorizo, and (my fav) the pork belly skewer - each dish had a great flavour combo, and all delicious. The fig dessert to finish was also a treat. The service was great and all waitstaff very friendly. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.
Terrific food, terrific service and a very fun atmosphere 😀 👍 my partner and I had such a pleasurable dining experience here 💖 every course was well composed and served with passion and delight! We have no criticism whatsoever and while it wasn't the absolute best meal of our lifetime, it was completely enjoyable and flawless 😍 👌 thank you bloodwood! 😁🤙🤙🤙
