•About the venue
Bitton Gourmet’s Cafe and Bistro has proved itself to be a bastion of Sydney’s cafe and restaurant scene, with its legions of loyals regularly making the trip to trendy Alexandria to fill their bellies, caffeinate, and peruse the gourmet produce sold at the venue. Even if one has to loiter outside in anticipation for a table, from all accounts any wait is worth it. The cafe’s Parisian leader, David Bitton, is at the helm, injecting his personality and charisma into proceedings. The French-Australian menu serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The vibe is friendly and local, where even first-timers are made to feel like part of the furniture. Young’uns are looked after, with a kids menu and space to play in. As far as functions are concerned, the Bitton Room is the venue’s event space. The Bitton Room comfortably plays host to cocktail functions, large dinners, and other intimate events. Overlooking Alexandria Park, it’s a tranquil and homely space to host a stylish function. Bitton Gourmet is found in the heart of Alexandria, a short walk from Erskineville train station. Overlooking the park, it’s if nothing else an enjoyable place to have a mini-unwind amongst some trees. Sydney’s CBD is about twenty minutes or so away by car.

We dined for the first time at this cozy French/Australian restaurant and had a great experience! We started with the Soup à L’oignon, a beautifully delicious French onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese, which we shared. For the main course, we had the Beef Eye Fillet with Red Wine Jus and the 12-hour Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The cocktails were fantastic, and the customer service was excellent. Highly recommend!
We had a lunch at this lovely French restaurant. Excellent bakery, excellent food and service. Best butter and beef burger I have ever had in Sydney. Highly recommended.
I have been coming here about once a year for many years as a celebration meal. However the quality on my last visit on Saturday was a severe decline to what we had come to expect. We were so disappointed. We passed a cafe that was completely packed and when we walked up to Bitton there were plenty of tables. We should've taken that as a sign. I ordered the Omelette A'la Paysanne and it was incredibly dry, I felt the eggs were overcooked, and the salad looked like a sad supermarket salad (I didn't eat it). The Pan Fried Wild Caught Snapper dish was overall too oily and the Grenobloise sauce was lacking (a few token capers, couldn't taste the lemon but there was a fresh one on the side and the croutons made no sense). The acidity should balance out the butter nature of the sauce. The Chicken Liver Parfait tasted very bizarre (bitter maybe?) and not at all like anything I have tried before, I personally couldn't eat any more of it after the one taste. I'm usually a huge fan of liver pates and the likes. The Crepes Suzette was nice enough and I enjoyed the bitter orange style. Coffee was ok! I'm not sure we'll be back for that price point when there's so much on offer in the Inner West to explore.
Always fabulous to spend some time at Bitton. I think I must be one of their oldest customers I have been going for over 20+ years and it’s still great. Always great food, great service, friendly and cannot wait until I see a few of our wines on the list… 😉
My friends and I came across this place on a whim and enjoyed everything. Food was good and the layout of the place was really cozy. I recommend to be seated at the back patio for some nice ambiance.
