•Another superb summertime venue, Bungalow 8 sits right on the edge of Sydney’s famed harbour. Escape the fast-paced surroundings of Sydney and revel in the beachside tropical vibes of Bungalow 8. Sun-drenched sanctuary on Sydney Harbour by day, summer dance club by night.
If it’s a sunny day – and if everyone remembers to bring sunnies – Bungalow 8 offers some of life’s more glorious combinations: seafood, lapping waves, cocktails and warm rays. Channelling a Manhattan-meets-tiki bar vibe, Bungalow 8 is one of the most popular hangouts in Sydney. By day, Bungalow 8 is something of a bistro; by night, it’s a happening and bustling bar. On the weekend, even more of a club vibe is instated, with regular guest DJs taking to the floor. As a function venue, it’s remarkably flexible. It's a good spot for after-work private events and drinks or a birthday that begins relaxed and ascends to party mode. Given the huge amount of room (enough for 1200 guests), it’s also conducive to large corporate functions. It's the perfect venue for celebrations and dynamic events of all kinds.

I dined here on the evening of February 16th, 2026, which was Lunar New Year. Because I was very hungry, I ordered a sharing plate for myself. The food was delicious, and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't too crowded, so it wasn't noisy, and the music was pleasant. The harbor is right next door, creating a great atmosphere.
We popped in for a quick drink and a snack. Loved the vibe! The Halloween decorations were fun, and the atmosphere was chill. Drinks were on point, and the chicken wings were tasty and juicy. The only miss was the calamari, which was a bit too dry and didn’t feel very fresh. Still, a great spot to hang out and I’d definitely come back to try more!
We've been here almost a month ago for lunch and everything was good. It's clean, delicious, and has a lot of options. Recommended 👍
I have throughout the year been eating on and off at Bungalow 8, always with family. As a pescatarian, I always found a variety of amazing options. The Fish & Chips and Barramundi (the previous recipe with Asian noodles, not the revised one) were something to die for. We used to visit for dinner at least twice a month - easy walk from my Kent St. apartment. The decline started from around October 2025. While service remained good, the cooking standards and portion sizes started to dwindle. In November, I was thoroughly disappointed with the small portion / ultra-thin cut of the newly introduced tuna. But, the rock-bottom was tested today, on NYE. I ordered my old favourite Fish & Chips to celebrate bidding farewell to 2025. I moved to Sydney from Singapore, where culinary standards are high, but I never found top-notch Fish & Chips there. I have always loved the Fish & Chips in Australia, viz. the batter being nicely puffed and crisp, the fish inside being succulent and fresh, piping hot, perfectly cooked, yet not the least oily. And, amongst all the places, my vote always went to Bungalow 8 for rustling up the best. Today, however, It was pathetic; it was shockingly oily, with oil all over the plate, oozing, dripping out of the fried fish - see photo. In the first place, this change of serving one hunk of a fillet as opposed to two nicely manageable, leaner fillets - which started in November - didn’t win my support. Still, I didn’t bother much, as long as the total weight of fish remained similar and the dish tasted right! Imagine my disappointment today at being served fish that was soaked wet in oil. Crowded lunch hour? Not really … at 12:30 pm, although it’s NYE, it wasn’t that crowded. New chef? Who knows … maybe standing in for the main one who’s off on break? Whatever the reason, shame on you, Bungalow 8, for serving that dish and daring to call it Fish & Chips!!! All I can say is that you have your work well cut out, if you have any desire to recover old standards. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of time before that rating slips below 4.
It’s a bit of a confusing place. A cross between a bar and a food place. They crank the music so loud so you can’t talk a lot and this was at 6.30. I did see them handling the food after it was cooked even the chips! Plus placing the meat onto buns with hands after cooking. Steak was cooked okay. The sauce was average. I’m not sure what the cooks are thinking. But hygiene is paramount when it comes to food!! Steak came out not bad plus some additional germs on the chips!!
