I recently revisited INDU for an anniversary dinner, and I left with a heavy heart. Four years ago, I had one of the best nights of my life there, sharing incredible Indian food with two close friends. But this time, everything I loved about the place seemed gone. The waiter, when we asked about recommended dishes, instead pushed the set menu. The entrees to start, were uneventful and did not resemble what was on their recent social media, however we held out hope. When the mains arrived, my heart sank—the pork curry was unbearably watery, tasting nothing like the rich, flavourful curries I remembered, and the barramundi fish was dry, served with a cold, tasteless sauce that ruined the dish entirely. INDU was once a special part of my life, and now it’s just a memory of what could have been.
This hidden place is a basement restaurant, my first SriLankan cuisine experience. The food quality was very good. I tried 3 types of Dosa and all were good, my favorite is the potato dosa. Mani course we tried the lamb, the chicken and the cabbage. All were good however my favorite was the chicken. We tried the date putting and the soft serve, both were good. The date pudding was outstanding.
Interior is beautiful but the taste was a little disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s because they want to accommodate for a lot of taste buds, but I felt like the spices and taste were lacking. Would recommend for dinner catch up.
Really wanted to love this place, however my high expectations were not sadly met. Dishes ordered were half great, and the other half just lacking in seasoning and spices. Shame because I love Sri Lankan food and was looking forward to eating a modern take on it. Overall: kottu and the aloo dosa were average, devilled chicken and egg hoppers we're good. Atmosphere was lovely though.
We had the sticky chicken and pork mains - amazing flavours and delicious. We had a mushroom and a potato dosa (ie a crepe!) for entree which were both delectable. The restaurant is underground in vaults partly shaped by convict hands - full of character and congeniality. The service was impeccable. A great place.
