•In 1944, a fire ravaged what was then formerly a timber building, leaving only a charred light pole which was dubbed the “black stump”. Due to World War 2, the new building was not finished until 1954 so a temporary bar to satisfy the pub’s loyal clientele was quickly set up on adjacent land. Times have changed, but to patrons the Aussie pub is still affectionately known as “The Stump”.

We booked in to the Atherton Hotel / Nightcap Saturday night, as we wanted somewhere close to see a band at the "Tableland Music Lovers" venue, right in the heart of Atherton. We were amazed at everything: from the newly refurbished rooms, wonderful reception and bar staff, and great meals and service, this hotel could not be faulted! We were even given a complimentary drinks voucher, 10% off food in the bistro and a breakfast pack, all included in the price! We will definitely be back and recommend! Thank you! PS the beds and pillows were sooooooooo comfy :)
Good place to stop on the way through…. Pub downstairs…..bistro good meals…. Toilet seat wasn’t clean cups and spoons where not clean and one of the two 600mil water bottles in the fridge was half empty. Other than that it was ok…….
You had no option for a half star, so here I go. We had lunch (3 of us) ladies, all whom have catering experience of 20years +. We were extremely disappointed in the very average bar service. ( not even a smile). Our meals were average at best. Definitely not worth the price we were charged.
Slept Ok. But the room is right in the corner & all the doors around slam hard from neighbours. The windows louvres in the roof let the sun light in at 6 am way to early. Tried to shut the blind it didn't work. Desperately needs fixing. Last stay in another room on the outer was perfect. Not so much this room
Terrific customer service from Kym Leask, Venue Support Officer, in returning a power pack that I left in my room. Greatly appreciated. I found the beds way too soft for my liking, my only complaint
