Our stay at Hayman Island was incredible. My husband and I stayed for 5 nights for our honeymoon and it was an absolute dream. The customer service was next level and everyone from reception and concierge, food and beverage, activities and housekeeping were very friendly. The resort itself is very luxurious and our pool access suite was fantastic. There was so much to do on the island and we loved the mix of adventure and relaxation. Our highlight of the trip was daily cocktails made by Mattia in Pacific. We would love to come back here again in the future and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the resort to others
The setting is undeniably spectacular. Unfortunately, that is where the magic ends. For the premium rates Hayman commands, the overall experience feels decidedly run of the mill. Service, especially food and beverage and to a lesser extent housekeeping, is at best average. That might be fine at a mid-range resort but at these prices it is sub-par. Meals routinely arrived cold, slow or incorrect. Even simple requests such as two poached eggs well and two poached eggs soft turned into a saga. One morning they were actually served cold. Staff were generally pleasant but their delivery felt perfunctory rather than polished. It is hard to shake the impression that many staff are simply passing through to extend visas rather than building a service culture. The room was acceptable and the facilities passable, but you are made to feel like a captive audience once on the island. In short, Intercontinental is leaning far too heavily on the natural beauty of Hayman and not enough on the guest experience. Stunning location but poor value for money. With just a little attention, the service could’ve lived up to the charges. A begrudged 3 star overall, for the money, the service could’ve lived easily have brought the experience down to a 2 star review.
The location is what makes this place, and the scenery is lovely. The pools are great and there is a lot of space to enjoy them for the whole day with deck chairs and day beds to read, swim and order food. The buffet breakfast each day is also great with a fair amount of variety. Cockatoo birds are everywhere but are locals. The day spa was so relaxing and the Elemis facial I had was amazing, I would recommend it. Jet skiing was also a highlight and the instructor was easy to follow and understand for novices, as I was. We enjoyed our stay all in all, but felt the night time dining experience/service was a little lack luster, especially for the cost. Items took a long time to be made and it took a long time to get our order taken. Additionally our room was muddled up and it took almost 2 hours for our bags to get to our room. We came in early September and this was a good time, would also recommend late September to early October to keep the temperature down. All in all was a good stay.
Stunning spot for a holiday the hotel is very nice and relaxing. The pools are great too and this is a perfect place to go if you are looking to switch off for a few days. If you are also into hiking a great walk around the island too. The rooms were clean, modern and spacious. My only tip if you lose your bag be prepared to pay at the resort store for clothing because these guys charge top dollar for non branded clothing which is no surprise on an island like this! I would come back again!
We had a very enjoyable four night stay in one of the beachside pavilions. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t particularly good and suggest staying on the island in a later month. The staff all over the resort were very good. Our accommodation was excellent except for the non heated small pool that was adjacent to our unit. In the colder months we feel that this pool( all the pavilions have one) should be at least mildly heated as it is a major feature and would have been used a lot. We did ask but no one seemed to know about the pool system. We feel that for the money charged for a pavilion , the pools should be heated in cold weather. Also, another time, we would not pay for our meals in advance. This is offered on booking but was not always to our liking.
