I visited the restaurant with a friend. We ordered a capricciosa pizza to share and a couple of drinks. The pizza was very disappointing, the base was thin, hard and crunchy. The ingredients were scant and mixed together instead of clearly defined. I like to see the ingredients like artichokes than have them mixed in with other stuff. The ingredients did not seem fresh, more like they had come out from a fridge. The small amount of ham had little taste. I reported this to the waiter who said he would inform the cook. At the end of the meal I enquired if the restaurant had changed hands recently and was informed that it had not. The restaurant/cafe at Hotel Frangos was good in the past, especially the pizzas which were on a thicker and fluffier base, more like gourmet pizza and had fresh ingredients. I'm giving 2 stars instead of one just in case they were having a bad day or the normal chef didn't turn up. No serious chef would serve that up. Service was ok but the waiters were disinterested.
Stopped in for dinner & it was fabulous. All four meals were generous serves, nicely presented & delicious. Great looking hotel, really beautiful & warm atmosphere. Cocktails were very good & fair price. So pleased with our time there. Staff were friendly, quick & helpful.
Ordered a drink a cold starter and a warm starter - took 40 minutes! Worst service I’ve ever had anywhere. Wasn’t very busy either, no one seemed to be managing the floor and a couple on another tables ended up getting g their own drinks because not 1 waiter serviced them. Will not be back and yelling all of my contacts to steer clear of this place.
While it was busy I admit, that is why I ordered a banana bread toasted rather than a eat in breakfast. 20 minutes past and i followed up with a staff member and was told it wouldn't be long. 30 minutes later I approached the counter with a different staff member and they assured me they would have it done now. 40 minutes late and my banana bread made it to the table as cold as it came out of the display fridge.... not impressed at all. Coffee was good but would have been better complimented with a toasted banana bread.
We only ate at the restaurant. Drinks weren’t cold and the food was really disappointing. The $36 lamb ragout tasted microwaved and was bland and the $24 salt and pepper squid was clearly from a packet and was tiny, rubbery and lacked taste. Really expensive for what it was and despite the pretty location, I would not recommend at all.
