Rooftop Bar
•Slate Restaurant Bar declares its mission to be one of providing an escape (an oasis, if you will) for the lawyerly and business types slaving away in the CBD - if only for a meal’s worth of time. They’re doing a pretty good job; Slate’s a modern, comfortable and stylish inner-city location to have a drink, lunch, or dinner. The cuisine at Slate Restaurant is best described as European with a few Asian surprises and influences. With a head chef trained under Marco Pierre White, you’re in good hands in any case. Besides that, there’s a good selection of cocktails and all of the requisite beers needed for a good post-work pint. Within its sophisticated walls, there are two dining rooms and three terraces. How do you get more terraces than dining rooms? We’re not sure, but they’ve done it. As a result, Slate is able to act as a function venue for groups ranging from one digit to about three hundred. The venue boasts a range of distinct zones to morph from a daytime lunch venue into an enticing atmosphere. Slate has the flexibility to create multiple breakout spaces, allowing for a fantastic hospitality experience. It is perfect for private functions like intimate dinners, birthday bashes, lunch parties, cocktail soirée gatherings and corporate events. Or if you're looking for a place for your next Friday night out, Slate is the place to be!
Slate Restaurant and Bar is just off the bottom end of Little Bourke Street, between William and King Streets (closer to William). Southern Cross is the closest train station.

We were looking for a place to have lunch while on a day trip to Melbourne and stumbled upon Slate at Goldsbrough Village. What a fantastic find! The rooftop terrace was the perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful weather, creating an amazing outdoor dining experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was efficient and attentive, taking our drink orders immediately and serving them within minutes. When we ordered our food, they informed us that one dish might take around 20 minutes, but everything arrived without much delay—and it was absolutely delicious! We also had the pleasure of speaking with the owner/manager, who was incredibly friendly and genuinely interested in ensuring we had a great experience. Highly recommend Slate for a relaxed lunch or drinks with friends. They’re open late on some weekdays, making it a great spot for an evening out as well. Plus, the washrooms are very clean—always a bonus for travelers. We’ll definitely be back!
I had Risotto, hubby Prawn Capellini and our friend the Baramundi. They were sufficient portion size, leaving enough room for dessert. Wine was great. Recommended to us by the host,to share the sticky date pudding and 2 of the boozy ice cream. That was enough to finish off a great meal. Service 10/10 highly recommend this place.
Recently hosted a function on Slates rooftop bar and it exceeded our expectations. The whole team made the process a breeze from start to finish, supporting with entertainment, a lot of hot food, grazing table and accommodated all our requests. Highly recommend this venue for all your function needs.
The place is excellent, staff is attentive and friendly. They came to us thrice, once to let us know the specials for the day, to take down the orders and then to check if we are enjoying or not. :) the 20 dollar drinks cum lunch combo is really good. Loved the cheeseburger, it was so juicy and yummy.. Pretty heavy though. Ambience is quite good. Highly recommended.
We celebrated my son’s birthday here and had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent — very friendly and attentive. Everything went smoothly, and the staff helped make the day special. Highly recommend for both the food and the warm atmosphere. Thank you!
