Stovetop Carlton. Is it Carlton’s Cheers? Maybe? Without implying Ted Danson and Shelley Long hang out here, Stovetop definitely is the kind of neighbourhood spot where “everyone knows your name”. And if not name, then definitely your coffee order. Stovetop is cosy, warm, and inviting, and boasts a menu ridiculously stocked with delicious goings-on. Inside, Stovetop is as easy-on-the-eye and cosy as one would expect an immediately-well-loved new Carlton cafe to be. Slightly rustic, slightly filled with a well-designed modern interior, and definitely smells delicious. You know the drill, coffee machine pumping, new cakes and slices made daily, crazy busy during lunchtime, a loyal following. Combine that with the fact that the space is a delightful spot for a function, and you’ve got yourself a winner. Stovetop is found on Leicester Street, Carlton. Near Melbourne University, that’s between Queensberry and Pelham Streets. The 19 and 59 trams will get you nearby, as well as all the trams that roll up and down Swanston Street.

Stovetop is a stylish café offering a typical Melbourne brunch menu with some Asian, Italian and middle-eastern touches and a cabinet of sweet and savoury croissants, sandwiches, pies and slices. I had the benny that was light and tasty. The long black was dark and bitter - in a good way. The service very attentive and friendly. A nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating options.

It’s the best place for breakfast, and the scrambled eggs are made with love—absolutely delicious. The tea, served in a traditional teapot, is not to be missed. I highly recommend this spot and will visit again. Special thanks to Mr. Elyas for the warm greetings and hospitality.

On behalf of the organisers of the Melbourne Mathematics Conference held on 3–4 June 2026, we would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to George, Elias, and the entire team at STOVETOP Café for their outstanding catering and hospitality throughout our event. From the moment the beautifully presented catering arrived, it was clear that every detail had been carefully considered. The food was exceptionally delicious, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared, with each platter presented to perfection. The quality and variety of the offerings were consistently praised by our conference attendees, staff, and exhibitors alike. What truly set STOVETOP apart, however, was the remarkable service provided by George, Elias, and their team. Every member of staff demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism, warmth, and genuine care. Their waiters seemed to have been selected not only for their experience and expertise but also for their honest, courteous, and welcoming personalities. They engaged with everyone in such a natural and respectful manner, creating an atmosphere that made all our guests feel valued and appreciated. Throughout the conference, our staff and exhibitors were tenderly looked after between sessions, with thoughtful offers of freshly prepared coffees and refreshments. These small acts of kindness made a significant difference during a busy two-day event and were greatly appreciated by everyone involved. On a personal note, I must mention the chai latte, which was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the conference for me. Having enjoyed chai lattes in many cafés over the years, I can honestly say that I have never tasted a better one. It was perfectly balanced, beautifully crafted, and absolutely memorable. George and Elias should be congratulated for creating such a unique café and for bringing the same passion, dedication, and joy to their catering services for external organisations. Food quality is superb with a great variety of delicious selections.
