Jells Road & Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill Victoria 3150, Australia
Pub
•The Rogue Squire brings the cheeky rogue attitude of James Squire to Wheelers Hill. Known as Australia’s first brewer, James Squire was a risk taker at heart who turned his life around from being a convict on the First Fleet to become the colony’s first and most sought after brewer. With the James Squire history in mind, The Rogue Squire has been renovated with a sense of history and storytelling. Featuring the full James Squire range on tap as well as a few limited release craft beers, The Rogue Squire is the perfect spot for any social or special occasion.

Rogue Squire had been on my places to go list. I've been here a couple of times and the service from the staff is great. They are flexible and accommodating to your needs, and do go the length to make sure your experience is satisfactory. The beverage list is pretty extensive so there's plenty of choice for those who are looking for variety. Food is on point. My steak was delicious and the chips were fresh and crispy. The entrees and parma were also very good. Areas to improve: wiping down of tables and seats (ours had a lot of crumbs and some oily patches), the side of fries instead of salad/slaw could be topped up alot more. Highly recommend this place!
Great place to have a drink, good varieties, and larger group gatherings. However food tasted a bit inconsistent. Last time we reckoned they had one of the best burger but this time the steak sandwiches took our number 1 spot. The calamaris were a bit under seasoned and the burger over cooked. Sweet potato chips are really crispy on the outside and creamy inside, but the wasabi mayo is on the weaker side. However, the pork cutlet was juicy and tender. Maybe they had a busier night on Friday, perhaps we will try again in another day.
I’ve been here twice and each time I’ve had amazing food and service! Their beef pie is absolutely delicious and my boyfriend loves their chicken burger. Their cocktails are very pleasant as well :)
The starters and main food options were nice and offered plenty of variety. There’s a dedicated bar on the ground floor as well as an upstairs dining area with its own bar, so you can choose the vibe you like. Seating is flexible too, with both indoor and outdoor options. The ground floor bar also has a pool table, and there are plenty of large TVs, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a footy match with a cold beer. The staff were friendly, attentive, and kept the place very clean. Overall, it’s a great venue for both casual drinks and a proper meal.
The Rogue Squire has a nice atmosphere but the food was so average and of the pints sampled there was not a lot of difference in the range of flavour on the palette. The karaage chicken burgers were dry as a bone and we had to ask for more sauce as the bun had basically been shown the sauce but barely coated. In fairness when I asked for a pot of the sauce my request was met very readily by the bar staff, who were great in general. Casual drinks yes, food nah.
