Reviews for Stamford Plaza Adelaide

We had a lovely stay in the Stamford Plaza. The service was excellent, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was a bit dated, however clean, spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The location is excellent. The works on the lifts are ongoing, staff did tell us during check in and signs were placed at reception detailing the works and potential wait times. We found we were waiting up to 10/15minutes in the mornings when going down to breakfast, otherwise we didn’t experience any other long waits.

We booked the hotel through booking.com and it was not mentioned that the car park lifts are out of order. I didn't feel like I was in a 5-star hotel. Room service left us a bunch of conditioners and no shampoo. Rang housekiiping no answer. The front desk ladies were lovely. The location is convenient for exploring the city. Do not recommend long stays.

This bed was comfy. The staff were pleasant. That is about as much positive aspects that I can report unfortunately. I slept very poorly as the walls appear to be paper thin. My bed literally shook when next door slammed their doors. All conversations could be heard. To their credit the hotel moved me to a room not next to late night party animals. However I was then next to the service lift which whirred and shushed all night behind my headhead. Also - the lift situation. Wow. Wait for ten minutes minimum. Miss lift because already full. Repeat. Lots of drunk loud patrons about. I won’t stay here again.

The hotel claims to be a 5-star hotel, so my review is based on that standard. If they claimed to be 4-star, I would be much more lenient. Check-in & Pricing: I pre-booked the hotel, but the front desk price didn't match the online quote. Luckily, I had a screenshot of my confirmation. The manager gave us two days of free parking to compensate. While it wasn't a financial loss in the end, the friction was unnecessary for a luxury hotel. Lifts: The elevators take forever to arrive, and one was out of order. Reading other reviews, this seems to be a constant complaint. Parking: The car park is not accessible via lift. The entrances are narrow, and the stairs to access it are steep. For a 5-star property, I expected valet service to avoid this inconvenience. Value: The price is amazing value ($206/night for three people, including breakfast). The location is excellent, and the concierge staff was very helpful. Also, spacious room. Breakfast: Good variety for a free breakfast, though the taste was very average. Barista-quality coffee is not included. Pool: The water was cold. Housekeeping insisted it was warm, but everyone at the poolside complained it was freezing even during peak sunlight. Staff made no attempt to check the temperature despite multiple complaints. In-Room Tech: The TV runs custom software that is low-resolution, old, and glitchy. If you try to skip a YouTube ad, the remote resets the TV to the home page, forcing you to restart the connection process. Dining: In-room dining was very average. The steak I ordered had too many chewy parts.

The name Stamford hotel should draw luxury to your mind and for the cost you should expect it, however what we paid for and what we got, I stayed at nicer places cheaper. The elevator situation is horrendous, and even didn't work at some points during the stay this means that we couldn't access the amenities such as the pool or the gym. When we called to see if there were stairs we could go down (as we didn't want to set off alarms) that took 2 of us calling and 10mins to get hold of someone who said yes use the stairs, They apologised but offered nothing else. Then the room was spacious however the bathroom was small. Shower tiles were unclean and mold on the ceiling. We had one fire sprinkle in the roof the other (well I hope it should have been) the other was just a tissue in the ceiling to cover what was there. There is a old school phone in the room but no room service menu (however they print a welcome letter for you, so it's not about the environment). When we scanned the barcode for room service the 3 restaurants came up but not one you could navigate to order room service from. You have to pay $30 for parking your car there. We spoke to reception calmly and politely and was only told sorry and they would pass to management which I am unsure that happened. I would say pay for another hotel and don't stay here. Not recommended.
