Reviews for Cleveland Sands Hotel

Just back from Christmas Day lunch at the Cleveland Sands Hotel. We were greated by Fiona who welcomed us warmly, and we were shown to our table in the bistro. Pretty good spacing of tables, and we were able to get my Mum's wheelchair around without too much fuss. Plenty of cold seafood - prawns, oysters, crabs (although we did have a bit of trouble getting the crab meat out). Great selection of traditional Christmas fare (ham, pork, turkey, veges), plus calamari, fish, salads. Brilliant desserts too (Christmas pudding, meringue, fruit mince & apple pie, Cheesecake). Absolutely beautiful food, and great service. Thank you to all the staff, especially the chefs who kept the food coming. We had a lovely day.

We had a great time dining here. The food was served quickly and was very tasty. The wine list was not too bad for a suburban hotel. We ordered a lovely Sav Blanc to have with our fish. Staff were very nice, we did arrive 30 minutes prior to our booking and they were able to seat us straight away, We will return when back in Brisbane.

Usually it's consistently good. We come often enough as we live local. We booked ahead. Restaurant not busy. We were not greeted. We were pointed in the general direction of our table, not easy to know which one it was as it was in the covered in area. We were not shown to it or told the number as to identify it. Ordering drinks. We were told to order on the app but couldn't order a jug, so had to go to bar. This caused confusion with staff as they said we could order the jug but only on the app when you were at the bar. 🤔 "Okay, so I'm here now... Can I just order a jug of ginger beer with 3 glasses please." No water was ever brought out to our table for duration of our stay. (last photo) All our entree meals and main meals were bought out at the same time. Meals were meh ok. A waitress accidentally dropped a fresh meal beside our table in the walk way and rushed off. We thought to get tools to clean up. She didn't return promptly so our girls got on their hands and knees to pick up the food & used serviettes from neighbouring tables to wipe up the mayo on the floors. Staff continued to walk up and down that walkway that had remenents of oily reside from the accidentally dropped dinner. The waitress who dropped the meal came back & picked up plate we'd piled the food on. Never once looking at us or acknowledging us. We were the ONLY people in that section. We had staff member come over to us to take plates and bring more drinks to us. I let them know there'd been an accidental spill and that they might want to clean the floor as it would be slippery. She shrugged it off. Said the cleaner would get to it later that night. I pushed the fact that someone could slip on it. She did come back later with a hazard sign. There are oldies that eat out at the Sands. Serving staff attitudes were poor. Staff seemed to not want to be there. No pride in their work. Not a nice experience.

Came here for dinner which was good and had some drinks. I had an amaretto sour which was delish. After our show at the RPAC, we came back for a few drinks. After ordering via the QR code and waiting 40 mins, we went to the bar to see if the drinks were coming, but they hadn’t got the order. They assured us drinks were coming out. There was hardly anyone there but drinks came out one at a time over the next 15 mins. When I spoke to the young guy about the wait he did not care and said ‘I don’t know what you want from me’… terrible service. Then, my amaretto sour had so much bitters in it (not sure this goes in an amaretto sour. I had to go back (which I never do) and lined up for an extra 10-15 minutes and the bartender agreed that it tasted terrible and swapped it for a wine. I don’t know how you can have so little patrons and be so slow. Anyway, not sure I’d come back, although the food was good.
