We dined at BAIX last night for a 7:00pm booking, and unfortunately the entire experience felt less like a restaurant and more like waiting at an airport terminal during a delayed flight - crowded, tense, and full of frustrated people checking the clock. By 9:00pm or just after our mains finally arrived. Two hours after being seated. Around us, you could see other tables visibly irritated, shifting in their seats, scanning the room for staff like passengers watching a departure board stuck on “Delayed.” It was Valentine’s Day, yes - but being busy doesn’t excuse the complete lack of flow or communication. The young waitresses did their absolute best. They were apologetic, polite, and clearly trying to manage an overwhelming situation that didn’t seem to be their fault. Our designated waiter, however, was another story. When our long-awaited mains were finally placed on the table, we realised we had no cutlery. We attempted to get his attention as he walked past and were met with a raised hand and a dismissive “just wait.” We then sat there, staring at our cooling food, for another five minutes before managing to flag down a different waitress who wasn’t even assigned to our table to bring us cutlery. There was no empathy. No acknowledgment of the delay. No ownership. When the food did arrive, it was undercooked and underwhelming. Something clearly wasn’t working in the kitchen, and while operational issues happen, the rudeness and lack of basic service absolutely could have been prevented. We had heard fantastic things about this restaurant, which makes the experience even more disappointing. For the amount of money spent on slow service and subpar food, it genuinely hurt. It’s a real shame but we won’t be returning, and we won’t be recommending it to friends or family.

This meal was a tale of two halves. A few tasty tapas style dishes started off the “chefs choice tasting menu”, so things were looking good, but then it stopped. For main we were given a very basic chicken schnitty and chips followed by an ice cream scoop of chocolate mouse sitting forlornly by itself on a plate. Not really what you expect from a restaurant positioning itself at the top end. It’s almost like the chef had to go home early and the work experience kid finished off the night.

It's been just over a week from our visit. Being the second time we were excited to go although the first was a function not a dinner for two. The wait staff ok " just ok" the venue is really nice for what it is. The remainder though will keep us from stepping foot there again, alongside sharing our experience with others. I sat on this for a week, as we recieved an email asking for feedback re our experience at the venue, " probably an automated response". Never the less I did write back outling what occurred with the response being a big fat ZERO. It's taking me a full week to recovery a recovery that included medical consults. We mentioned the food that I didnt finish on the night, our waiter for the evening thought I was making a joke , he soon realised no, saying he would let the kitchen know. That in fact is the only response we had had. Simply not good enough not to respond to an email with what had occurred after asking for feedback. It wasn't even written as a complaint more along the lines of raising their awareness.... Just not good enough. Thank you for the horrible week I've had to endure. Not ever again and our comment to others Just don't .

Baix is an incredible restaurant located on bay street. It has a wonderful set menu and great variety. The service was great, and they were very friendly! The food was great and paired with nice wines. Overall a great experience!

Our experience at Baix in Brighton was exactly that — beige. We visited on Valentine’s Day and unfortunately the evening fell well short of expectations. From the outset, the welcome was underwhelming. There was no maître d’ or clear host presence; we had to approach staff ourselves to find someone to seat us. It immediately felt disorganised and certainly not reflective of a fine dining experience. The set menu itself was very ordinary and the food was bland. Service initially started off well enough, but as the night progressed, things noticeably deteriorated. The restaurant became increasingly loud, and it was clear something had gone wrong in the kitchen. Food portion sizes for other tables near us appeared to shrink significantly as the evening went on. Some accompaniments and sauces listed on the menu were simply missing from dishes. The biggest frustration was dessert. After our mains, we waited an hour for it — only for it never to arrive. There was no communication or explanation about the delays. Eventually, we asked for the bill and left with dessert in Tupperware. Overall, the experience felt chaotic, poorly managed, and far from fine dining. For the price point, it was extremely disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it. Save your money.
