The hotel is in a very good location, right in the CBD. It's just a few steps to the tram, and only a 4-5 minute walk to Chinatown, with many restaurants nearby. The lobby is comfortable, with sofas for relaxation. Since it's Christmas, there’s a Christmas tree in the lobby that creates a festive atmosphere, along with a pleasant aroma in the air. The hotel staff was polite; since we stayed for three nights, on the day we checked in, there was only one set of toiletries in the room, which was not enough for two girls with long hair. However, when we asked the staff for more, they were very polite and provided several extra bottles at once! The lighting in the room is quite dim, and the view outside is of the office building across the street. The bed is very comfortable, and the overall cleanliness is good. I fell asleep on the sofa, but as an Asian, I found the lack of a handheld shower in the bathroom quite inconvenient. However, I suppose I have to adapt to the local culture! I had previously seen some reviews mentioning dust and dirt, but I didn’t notice any this time. When we checked in, we were informed that if we needed our room cleaned, we should call before 10 AM. Since we didn’t need cleaning, we didn’t call; however, it was strange that when we returned to our room, we found they had already cleaned it. I also don’t understand why they moved my pajamas from the bed to my suitcase; it would have been fine to leave them in place, as my suitcase is dirty! We didn’t have the opportunity to use the kitchen, but I noticed that it’s well-equipped with cups, cutlery, and even a dishwasher, which is very convenient! It would have been even better if there were a washing machine and dryer in the room!
Sharing based on my own personal experience: We checked into Citadines on Bourke Melbourne on 31 Dec 2025 and stayed for 8 days and 7 nights. The room was nice and spacious, with a small kitchenette that was convenient for a longer stay. However, the bed and pillows were not comfortable. The bedsheets and blanket covers were especially rough in texture. We also found stains on the bath towels, which was very unpleasant and unhygienic. On the second last day of our stay, the fridge started leaking and we woke up to water all over the kitchenette floor. We left a message for the front desk staff, as they were constantly short-handed and dealing with long queues of check-in guests every day. The hotel’s location is excellent as it is right in the heart of the city with many shopping and F&B options nearby. Housekeeping was inconsistent. On some days we received fresh towels, while on other days we did not. Another annoyance was that housekeeping only provided one set of toiletries even though there were two guests staying in the room. As housekeeping only comes every other day, we had to repeatedly return to the already busy front desk to request extra toiletries. I would suggest that the hotel uses family size bottled toiletries in the bathroom for the guests’ convenience and reduce the housekeeping’s inconsistencies.
Overall ok rooms (not the greatest view/light though), the room layout is not the most convenient. The best advantage is its great location. Fair price as well. The biggest issue was the burned plastic smell from the ventilation when A/C was on that started on the second night (from Jan 24 to Jan 25). It was impossible sleep in the room, I reported it to the reception, the receptionist was friendly and tried to help out, but there were no other rooms, and this was the weekend before the Australia Day, so it wasn’t possible to quickly get a technician to look at it. She gave me a fan after midnight so I could ventilate the room with the door open (the windows there can’t open) before going to bed and have it to help as the temperature on that day was 46. It felt like it might be a fire risk given that the plastic smell definitely must come from the A/C or ventilation system. Anyway, in the morning, we decided to check out from the room, and the staff said they would try to accommodate us after we come back. When we came back at 4pm, the receptionist told us they can move us to a different room (btw, not a single sorry from the different receptionist this time for the night that we slept coughing and spent 3h trying to resolve the issue). We decided it’s better to find a room elsewhere as the issue might happen again, and we didn’t feel like the hotel did all it could in order to diagnose and fix the issue. The manager appeared and said he had come upstairs earlier and hadn’t noticed any smell (even though the yesterday’s receptionist clearly noticed it too), and they called someone to have a look on Tuesday. I don’t think it’s acceptable in a hotel with hundreds of visitors. The manager said in the end he didn’t want us to leave in unhappy mood, and he offered a refund for the remaining nights — which we had to request ourselves from booking.com. So, the hotel is ok but the issue could have been handled much better. I hope nothing burns and everyone will be safe.
Perfect location for our 5 night stay. Bed was super comfortable, very clean apartment with everything you could need( aside from laundry facilities) service was great. Pool and sauna were enjoyable. Tram stop right outside the front door and plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Great place to stay and enjoy Melbourne.
Room is a good size and clean. The corridor outside needs hoovering as dirty. Despite being promised that we woukd have bins emptied and clean towels today the housekeeping team did not arrive even after I reminded reception at 4pm. By 9pm I just went to reception who handed me a set of towels. Reception staff are very helpful and apologetic for the poor housekeeping ( we also had a problem at check in when we were allocated a room that had not been cleaned. The receptionist apologised and upgraded us to a bigger room)
