Brunswick’s Railway Hotel has been a north-side institution for nearly 140 years. The many past lives and stories told across the front bar have embedded this place into locals hearts. The old local is set to become the new local, once again. The new Hotel Railway offers modern Brunswick a place to perch from afternoon until late. Entering the public bar through a Victorian-era hallway, you’ll see distinct areas, all filled with natural light. The centrepiece is a striking 20-metre recycled brick bar. Dropped in after work on a Friday. Straight off the train at Brunswick station and you cannot miss this venue. Very much a local place to meet. So many places from the outdoor beer garden to the terrace with sunny view of station to the inside spaces. Great staff and genuinely helpful and engaging. The food was typical pub style but certainly delicious. Friday has a raffle and music.

We visited on Friday evening and the place was full of happy vibes. The staff were super friendly, which made the night even better. Such a lovely memory for us😍 We ordered the 250g Yarra Valley Rump and the Pan-Fried Snapper. The food took a bit of time to come out, but it was totally worth the wait. The steak sauce matched perfectly with the meat, and the salad was fresh and tasty. The snapper was warm and, although it looked a bit small, it was surprisingly filling. We also joined the Friday meat raffle – unfortunately, we didn’t win, but it was still a lot of fun and added to the friendly, cheerful atmosphere. Highly recommend making a booking if you plan to come on a Friday👍🏻

Came in late Thursday night (8:30) for a steak special. Towards end of trade but the steak was excellent. We ordered the steaks medium rare and it came out perfectly tender. Also had the brookvale gingerbeer and lemon lime bitters both were delicious. We opted for mushroom sauce for one of the steaks (at an added cost) and it was a creamy and flavourful accompaniment. The steak and chips were both seasoned perfectly and the salad well dressed. Would return for the saturday steak special. Great venue for a feed or drink

We recently celebrated our parents’ joint 70th at Hotel Railway in Brunswick and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We had the corner bar space, which we absolutely loved, it was the perfect spot for a relaxed yet special celebration. The team made everything so easy from start to finish, friendly, accommodating, and genuinely invested in helping us create a memorable night. The food was fantastic, the drinks flowed, and the atmosphere was spot on. Our parents and guests had an amazing time. Huge thanks to the staff for making it such a wonderful occasion!

Food was decent, however the $12 bowl of chips could best be described as pathetic. Incredibly disproportionate price to plate ratio for the chips which were simply average, nothing special, not bad. Simply confusing. They did bring out a ‘top up’ after questioned, which was roughly an extra 1/3 of the original bowl. Puzzling to say the least, not sure the hesitation on just filling the bowl with chips, not exactly gonna break the bank. Othwerwise meals and service were decent.
